how to re-lock bitlocker drive
I'm using Bitlocker on a VHD under Windows 7 beta. When the VHD is attached, I can right-click on the drive and there's a menu item to unlock it. But there does not seem to be an analogous way to re-lock it later (while staying logged on to the PC), except to go to Computer Management and detach the VHD.Is there a way to leave the VHD attached but re-lock it?

Hi Gary02139, after checking the issue, it seems this is a Windows 7 related issue. As this forum focuses on Windows Vista specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows 7 forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7itprosecurity/threads/ The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the newsgroups regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.Sean Zhu - MSFT

Hi Sean. The FAQ over at the Windows 7 Beta forums says to post Bitlocker questions here rather than there, which is why I did so. :)http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en/w7itprogeneral/thread/2bbdeaef-687a-454c-8292-bb00b48f919eIn any case, are you saying that under Vista, the context menu does provide the re-lock option that's missing in Windows 7 beta?

Gary, Making the assumption that your VHD always has the same drive letter simply create a new notepad file called "lock.bat" (for example) and within it type the following where X is your drive letter, "manage-bde -lock -ForceDismount X:" simply click this when the drive is connected and there you go, one dissmounted and locked drive. Hope this is what you were after, J
