I never partitioned it. Have been adding files to the drive for some time. I formated it yesterday. Help file states drive must be "initialized".I find no option or action choice for that. If you would like additional info, please advise.

Hi robfo,To initiate recognition of the USB device by using Device Manager, follow these steps:a. Click Start, click Run, type Devmgmt.msc, and then click OK. The Device Manager window opens.b. Click to select your computer as the location for the scan.c. On the Action menu, click Scan for hardware changes. Windows XP recognizes the new device.d. Close the Device Manager window. For more information, see:USB device is not recognized when you attach it immediately after your Windows XP-based computer resumes from standby or hibernation You can give a try to partition using the Diskpart command. Refer the link below to do the same:A Description of the Diskpart Command-Line Utility Regards,Divya R – Microsoft Support.Visit our Microsoft Answers Feedback Forum and let us know what you think.

Thanks, Divya R. I think I'll use a third party partition manager. Still puzzling why Dsk Mgmt, in computer managment program, doesn't give the options for the USB drive that are listed in help file.
