Hi how can I set up win7 firewall to block incoming and outgoing connections by default and ask me if I want to allow/block every and any program that wants to use a net connection? For incoming connections, I can block all by default and the firewall will ask me if I want to allow or block. That's good. For outgoing connections, I can block all by default but I have to create a rule for each program I want to allow through. That's a huge pain. I want the firewall to instead ask me once "do you want to allow this program to make an outgoing connection" and create the exception automatically. Possible? thanks.

This is a good feature we could have in windows firewall BUUT ive heard rumors that those warns could make your security vulnerable ...so dont really know if that is true if not MS could defenetely add that feature for windows 7!Regards,RR

Choose ->Programs->All Programs->Allow the connection->next->type a rule name and finish it. NOTE: This setting may cause potential security problem, it's not recommended.

Personally, I like current Windows Firewall behavior (ask if we should allow or not ) since it let us know which programis trying to connectInternet, and let us block Internet traffic which we don't like. Hi Robinson ZhangWould doing what you suggested above result in a prompt for you to either accept or deny connection. Looking at what you suggest would make me think that afterapplying that rule then everything will be accepted without warning.I think whats been asked is can we make thefirewall behave like the one in onecare which asks with a prompt if you want to allow the outgoing connection.All the best malc

Download Vista Firewall Control (look in Google) - once installed, it will query you any time you run a program that accesses the web. You will have an option to enable incoming, enable outgoing, disable incoming, disable outgoing, enable all (I use this most of the time if I know the program) or disable all. Hello Blegs,really apreciate your suggestion and i heard of that "plugin" for vista firewall a while ago when i was still using vista premium!!but i was thinking myself that why would i want that to make it prompt if i know all the programs imrunning and i even set up scopes and ports for that...i think im all set with my stuff but i really wish windows firewall had buffer controlling and things to limit udp traffic it would be really great and id say perfect(like a firewall with a bunch of configurations that would be off tha hizzle 4 shizzle man)!!!but again thanks man i just wont download it cause something made me wonder if i do so might change my firewall behaviour so better leave it like that :DKind regards,RR

Thanks. Hi, this is exactly not the default behaviour :-) so if your windows 7 firewall does so, let us know how you got it working!! I've a lot of problems with the extended FW setup, eg. that all programs can simply pass without even having a rule in the list. .. hope that thread's not finally dead.

This is true. Janwon said it right. This is what we want. This is exactly what the Firewall doesn't do. It only asks in specific instances, but not when a connection attempt is made.
