Thank you. I downloaded the Malwarebytes' free version, ran the scan and it found several viruses. I have AVG 9.0 installed and run a scan daily and it hasn't found any viruses. However, when I run the Malware scan, it finds one to three each time...hijacker and rogue to name a few. Is it worth the cost to buy the updated version of Malware to "zap" the virus immediately versus each time I manually scan?

Hi hamilpat, Are you having MBAM remove what it finds? When the scan is complete, click OK, then Show Results to view the results. Make sure that everything is checked Click Remove Selected . If you have done that, and rebooted, the malware should not be returning, unless you are repeating the same behavior that caused the infection to begin with. Or unless there is some additional malware on your computer that requires more powerful tools to clean. You might also try an online scan here: http://www.eset.eu/online-scanner This scan works best with IE. Alternate browsers require downloading and installing the ESET Smart Installer. • Accept the Terms of Use: • Approve the install of the required ActiveX Control, then follow on-screen instructions. * Disable the protection of your resident anti-virus program after installing the active X control that Eset has installed and again when you actually start scanning. • Make sure enable (check) the Remove found threats option is checked, and run the scan. • After the scan completes, the Details tab in the Results window will display what was found and removed. A record of these results will be found here: C:\program files\esetonlinescanner\log.txt. This online scan may take quite a bit of time to complete so please be patient. If necessary, allow the scan to run overnight. Please do not use the machine to do anything else (e.g. browse; check email; chat) until the scan completes.

My entire reply above did not post. Perhaps I had too much text. I had included that the paid version of MBAM is worthwhile with its realtime scanning, IP protection, and automatic updating. However, also important is where you surf to and how you surf. The best protection is the person sitting in the chair behind the computer.

Thank you. Yes, I have it set to remove what it finds. There has been no report of any virus since Sunday morning's scan. I don't do much surfing..pretty basic searches when I search and not many attachments in email other than docs known persons are sending me for work purposes. My fear is/was that the original "trojan:win 32" that attacked the system and micorsoft support tech helped me remove was/is actually still imbedded someplace as it popped up again yesterday while I was working as the same thing (Security Tool). The first time it happened, I clicked to close the window and everything froze and i couldn't even turn off the system. So this time, I went directly to Malwarebytes and ran a scan. It found nothing. Then I scanned with Microsoft Security Essentials. It found nothing. Then I scanned with the AVG 9.0. It found nothing. If it popped up and wasn't found in the scans, it is hiding or really not there?

If you rebooted after the MBAM scan, and you are still getting those popups, there are still some remnants of the malware remaining, or you were on the webpage where you first encountered it.I suggest getting a review of what files are actually running on the system, and of what vulnerabilities exist. If I were you, I'd post on one of the malware removal forums that uses trained volunteers to advise on step-by-step cleanups.
