how to completely disable automatic file encryption in XP
I have Windows XP SP3 and every file I download is automatically encrypted no matter what directory I save the downloaded file in. So it's not as simple as turning off encryption of any specific directory, the file will be downloaded as encrypted regardless of whether the directory is encrypted or not. I think there's some group policy or other setting which not only sets everything in My Documents to encrypted, but also everything I download, no matter where it's downloaded to. It does not matter whether the folder is encrypted, or even on my C: drive: a downloaded file is always encrypted. This is a problem if I want to move the file to another machine. Is there a policy or registry setting somewhere to disable this automatic encryption? Additional info: I have found the following keys in my registry:HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\AutoEnrollmentHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography\AutoEnrollmentAnd many other keys underHKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Cryptography HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Cryptography\CertificateTemplateCacheHKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\EFS\CurrentKeys No keys about EFS exists in HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion There is no policy defined in Group Policy (gpedit.msc)Computer Config / Windows settings / Security Settings / Public Key Policies / Encrypting File System 1 person needs an answerI do too

The following Microsoft KB article in the "More Information" section describes a registry setting EFSConfiguration that, when set to '1', will disable EFS."EFS may not be enabled expectedly after you disable a policy and this policy turn off the EFS feature" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/960050 >HTH, JW
