how to check weather my OS is upgraded or installed

example :

if upgraded win 8 to win 8.1,

how does I can find out it is upgraded form 8 to 8.1

If 8.1 installed directly how can I find its an fresh installation

its hard to tell, or maybe because I never facing this issue.

I suggest you check with your PC manufactured or reseller which original OS version installed with this PC. You can also refer to recovery environment, which OS is stated as original backup OS

Hi NTRao,

Upgrading from Windows 8 to Windows 8.1 is totally for free. I am curious about the reason you want to distinguish them.

If the machine is upgraded recently, there is a windows.old file located in the C drive if this machine is upgraded recently. But it will be removed automatically.

In addition, as far as I know we will downgrade to Windows 8 if we perform a refresh of the Windows 8.1 which is upgraded from Windows 8.
