how to block or modify a security update in Win7?
a recent update to XP, Server 2008R2 & Win7 (KB2536276) pretains to SAMBA directories and blocking executables from accessing a windows machine. the problem is that it blocks all access to the SAMBA directory (we are trying to access text files). in win xp i can block the update but in server 2008r2 & win7 i cannot block it and still allow for automatic updating. i need to block this update or otherwise disable it from blocking access to that directory.

Motormouse, I don't think it is nesessary to hide (block) the update on windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. Because if you read the microsoft article about this issue. They clairly state that it is on windows XP and Windows Server 2003. I quote the article: After you install this security update on a computer that is running Windows XP or Windows Server 2003, you may be unable to access Samba shares. This problem occurs only if you use plain text passwords. Source: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;2536276 Also try if the workarround works form the KB2536276 works for you. This allows to install the security update anyway. And your users can still access the share. The big benefit here is that if this patch gets superceeded by an other security update you don't need to exclude that new security update from your machines. Kind Regards DFTIM me - TWiTTer: @DFTER
