I recommand to you to download and install "System Update Readiness Tool for Windows Vista". http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821/en Download and run the tool, it will say that it's "installing"...it's actually running the readiness scan at this time so you should let the installation run to completion. The KB article says it will appear to hang at 60% completion and I've observed this as well. Just be patient and let it finish. After the "installation" is completed, try to download and install your security update. If this does not solve your problem, please reset windows update components: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058 If this does not solve your problem, please post your question in the dedicated Windows Update Forum. http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistawu/threads Thank you for your cooperation! Hi Dexter, This issue can be caused by a damaged .NET Framework component. You may refer to the following KB articles to have a test: When you try to install an update for the .NET Framework 1.0, 1.1, 2.0, 3.0, or 3.5, you may receive Windows Update error code "0x643" or Windows Installer error code "1603" MS10-070: Description of the security update for the Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 on Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 (64-bit), Windows Vista, and Windows Server 2008 Regards, Sabrina This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. What worked for me was using the .Net Framework "Repair" option in Programs and Features. Double click the .Net Framework Client entry, then choose "Repair". Reboot after it's done; If you have multiple versions of the .Net Client do the repair on each of them, rebooting after each repair. Once all repairs are complete run Windows Update and it should run without error- It did for my Vista Business SP2 laptop.
