how do I get outlook express from interfiring with live mail when it is disabled
I have IE8 and windows live care. How do i stop outlook express (which is not default) from down loading mail at same time as windows live? If I put OE off line it puts IE8 off line also. OE keeps trying to compress mail folders about every 3 minutes. It or IE6 is not listed in programs so I can delete it. How do I get OE outa my hair anf off my computer? I have XPsp3

In addition to Gordon's suggestion, which is the simplest, you can also either delete the account in OE or set it to not be included in a send/receive cycle.Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]------------------------------If a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. outlook express loads in the background. I don't open it. It is not in the start file. I guess removing the accounts is my best bet. where else in xp are programed to start?

msconfig does not have the exe ("C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe")for OE listed. I also went to c: program/outlook express and tried to delete the files. when I delete one it pops right back in the folder. so I can't remove it off the computer. I am going to try removing accounts now.

OK. Piece of cake.In Windows Search, you have to tell it to stop indexing OE, even though you are not using it.Windows Search. Set Desktop Search Options: http://www.microsoft.com/australia/windows/desktopsearch/search/options.mspxIn the Windows Control Panel | Indexing Options | Modify. Clear the check box for Outlook Express. You may need to let it compact once to get rid of the prompt, but that should be it.Bruce Hagen ~ MS-MVP [Mail]
