how come I need to log off and log back on to get icons to display in task bar
I read on this web site about another person having failure to display volume icon and their work around fix was to use control shift escape and close explorer.exe then log off then log back on to get their volume icon to display. I did that and it worked. It not only displayed my volume icon but also my power icon and external hard drive icon. How come these icons are not being properly displayed upon reboot? Instead of a work around fix is there a permanent fix?1 person needs an answerI do too

This is the post from tis web site at http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/vistamedia/thread/c85208d7-d265-48f2-894f-1a63cfbd8517/ just had exactly the same problem as Tecian. The following is what I did to correct the problem.Open up the Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc), go to the "Processes" tab, select "explorer.exe" and click "End Process"Then select the users tab in the task manager select youself and click on logoff tab at the bottom. Login again and everything should be back. Please post back if it worked so that it can help others.YTS. This worked for me but requires the log off then log on wait each time I reboot. The alternative has been to not log off then log back on but to go to control panel>power options>uncheck always show icon>ok>recheck always show icon. And control panel>sounds and audio devices>uncheck place volume icon in the task bar>ok>recheck place volume icon in the task bar. I have not yet figured out how to display safely remove hardware icon for removing my external hard drive when the icon is not displayed. Instead of these work around fixes does anyone know how to fix these failures to display icons in the task bar?
