home network : netlogon to domain instead of workgroup
hey guys, i have a laptop with a problem that i can't figure out, here is what happens... a windows7 machine configured with a workgroup, receives a netlogon for a domainname that is showing his netbios name (name: Rodinsky). No domainserver is present. all network components are into a workgroup. On that particular machine in the properties it shows the correct workgroup name ( workgroupname: Home). But after trying to acces folders in the network it pops up the netlogon require the user to insert the user and password for that domain. ( the screen pops up with : user, password domainname: RODINSKY)The strange thing is that he can access the folders in the corrent workgroup., but unable to access the networkprinter.. huh ? i am lost here... please help!

Hi, This is the new UI in Windows 7, the domain name is the computer name if it have not joined a domain. You may need to install the shared computer in Windows 7. Whether you already created a Home Network? If not, you may consider of creating a Home Network to share the Printer. Hi Juke. Thanks for your explanation, that particular laptop is already part of a home network, united in a workgroup called MSHOME. and thats the thing thats bugs me, since we have a NAS ( Netgear Stora, also part of the workgroup MSHOME) and i am able to logon from that laptop to the NAS, but the logon credentials are not remembered, eventho i checked that box, and that situation occurred over night ( as always ... hahaha) That kinda triggered my thoughts that the changed "domainname" caused it...

Hi, OK, do not worry about it, this situation is caused by the logon credentials have not stored in the computer. You may refer the following to setup the setting related to credentials. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Store-passwords-certificates-and-other-credentials-for-automatic-logon For details information, refer to http://blogs.techrepublic.com.com/window-on-windows/?p=2734 Important Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support.
