hd363n
I purchased Inoi HD363N 320gb network drive and installed it on my computer using the necessary procedures through the web utility. The problem is now i'm trying to access the utility by typing the http://storage/ or 169.254.0.1 in the browser window to no evail. it just doesn't open. i have windows vista if this can help. i want to set up an FTP server and cannot access the utility to do that. Maybe the fact that i changed the host name in the utility from storage to workgroup is the problem but i tried typing http://workgroup/ it just goes to a random website www. workgroup.com just like when i type http://storage/

Hi Gorgtem, From you post, I understand that the issue you encountered is: You purchased an INOi HD363N 320 GB network drive. However, on a Vista machine, you fail to access it by typing the http://storage/ or 169.254.0.1 in the browser window. This issue can occur if: 1. This product is not compatible with Windows Vista:On the INOi website (http://www.inoi.com/English/HD363N.asp), I find that the system requirement of this product is: Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP (Vista is not included). System Requirements(when used as a portable HDD) Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XPMAC OS X (10.2 or above) 2. Vista accesses the product through network. However, they are not located in the same network segment; there is no router between these network segments as well. For example, the IP address of Vista is 192.168.1.1/24 and the IP address of HD363N is 169.254.0.1. 3. Other reasons. As we have not enough information about this product such as how does this product connect to the computer (through network, USB, or other means?), I suggest contacting INOi for further information of this issue. For your reference, you may get in touch with INOi via the contact information from the following website: http://www.inoi.com/English/ContactUs.asp Hope the information is helpful. Hi Gorgtem,If you have not already contacted iNoi, here is what you will have to do. I had the same problem trying to get the HD363N to work.1. Please download the latest firmware from here: http://www.argosyusa.net/driver/NetHDD007-1127.zip. This firmware fixes a whole bunch of issues. 2. Unzip the files contained in this zip file.3. This step is important: Connect your HD363N to your PC/laptop directly using a Cat5/Cat6 Crossover cable.4. Go into your network connections and change the IP address of your PC/laptop to something like this: IP Address: 169.254.0.10Subnet Address: 255.255.0.05. Then access the HD363N by typing http://169.254.0.1 You will then be able to access the Web Interface for changing your HD363N settings, upgrading firmware, etc.6. Go to Maintenance and do a firmware upgrade by browsing to the firmware files you had downloaded and un-zipped earlier. After the firmware upgrade is done, please restart.7. You can then go back in and make your changes like assign a static IP address to suit your network, create folders, etc. Please let me know how this goes.NCRR

The problem is that after you upgrade firmware that the initial issue of Explorer hang is resolved but the new issue becomes that of file corruption. I tried to upload and then retrieve various files types and they all were either unable to be openedor damaged. Another problemis that the firmware flash ofNetHDD007-1127.bin damages the file system. My original firmware Argosy-NetHDD006-1013.bin worked pretty well in XP but my laptop suffered massive failure so I was forced to use this Vista Home Edition. It seems thatmyHD363N NAS device is quite worthlessif I cannot share between my two machines. I can now feel quite certain that this Argosy NAS device of mine in incompatible with the Vista OS.And the beat goes on...
