hardrive filled up overnight
My 6 month old, 500gb hd, HP desktop, windows 7, filled up 400gb of space on harddrive overnight, 1 gb left. What could have happened? I did a system restore back to 3 weeks ago yesterday morning, in safe mode, cuz pc hasn't been acting right for a couple of weeks,so I restored to b4 that. Any suggestions.... thanks

Please download the free version of Malwarebytes. Update it immediately. Do a full system scan Let us know the results at the end. http://www.malwarebytes.org/productsDyami & Wanikiya ...Team ZigZag.

FIRST I would do as JMH3143 suggests and run a malware scan. If that comes back clean I would download Treesize (from Jam software) and it will tell you what is taking up the space.Wanikiya & Dyami -Team-ZigZag. www.ZigZag3143.com

Hi, As they said, you would better to scan the system with the anti-virus programs. Meanwhile, lets run Check Disk Utility to check if there is error codes on your hard drive. Method 1: 1. Click the Start Button, type "cmd" =>Right click on it and choose Run as Administrator=>Input the following command and press Enter Key after it. Chkdsk /f /r 2. Please type Y and press Enter. 3. Please restart the computer and let the tool check all drives on the computer. Method 2: 1. Click the Start Button=> Computer=> Right-click on the problematic hard drive and choose Properties. 2. Switch to the Tool tab and click on the "Check Now" button. Click Continue if necessary. 3. Select both the "Automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors" options. 4. Click Start. Note: It is recommended to repeat the steps above to check the disk twice so that most of the error can be found and fixed. Also, lets run Disk Cleanup, Disk Defragmenter and Check Virtual Memory as well. Hope this helps. Vincent Wang TechNet Community Support
