hard drive partition access problem
Hello all, I have been using 7 for some time on my netbook and it runs very well, however I now have a problem accessing my data storage drive, It was called "7 data" and contains "my documents" among other things, it is now just called "local drive" andif I try to open the drive I get the message "F:\ is not available, access is denied" if I right click for properties, then the file system type is empty and the used and free space show as 0 bytes. However, if I double click on the shortcut to "my documents" then all my data is still there!! Confused? I am. If I open disk management, then I do get the option to format the logical partion, and it does show the correct size for the partition, but has anyone got any ideas of how to get 7 to recognise my data partion without a reformat? or why this should have occurred in the first place? thanksTara

Is your drive a internal disk or external hard drive? I suggest that you try to take the ownership of the drive first. Please refer the following article. KB308421 If the issue is not resolved, I suggest that you assign another drive letter for the hard drive. The following article can be referred. KB307844 If the issue still occurs, please let us know if it occurs in Safe Mode.Arthur Xie - MSFT

Thanks for the reply, as it turns out, it was a permissions problem, no idea why it changed though!!Tara
