halmacpi.dll BSOD
Hi to all I seem to be having a BSOD on my computer; AMD Phenom X6 1090T BE, Asus M3A78PRo (Bios Updated to 1701), Samsung HDD 500GB and Seagate 1.5TB, Nvidia GTX 260OC 890MB (Factory OC), I was playing a game and after several hours the game just froze and the bsod error came up creating a memory dump, I used a program called bluescreen viewer in order to view the related errors which might give me an indication to what might have caused this however I am not sure what could have caused this error... this is the first type of BSOD I have encountered on my rig. I have made the report available here . I hope someone can help me out with my issue. Thanks, Edward.

Do you have Zone Alarm installed? That at times creates these issues.

Hi no I don't use Zone Alarm, my anti virus is ESET NOD 32 and I have added the game in its exception list beforehand so as not to interfere.

Hi Edward, the list you posted is completey useless. To see the cause I have to take a look at the dumps with the Debugging Tools for Windows . Please start the Windows Explorer and go to the folder C:\Windows\Minidump. Next, copy the dmp files to your desktop, zip all dmp into 1 zip file and upload the zip file to your public Skydrive [1] folder and post a link here. Hi, Results verified by WinDBG, DumpCHK, and BlueScreenView. The Bug_Check was 124 CAUSE hardware which is not as specific as it might seem. The process running was indeed AssassinsCreed so check with it maker's support and their forums for known issues. Could be heat related - try using a small fan to blow into the air intakes to see if that helps. Does it just act like it loses power or does it shutdown in a normal manner? One problem could be Daemon Tools and SPTD.sys which is known to cause or aggravate these issues. Uninstall DT and disable/remove SPTD.sys. You can always re-install them after you have resolved the issues. Disable/Remove SPTD.sys http://www.duplexsecure.com/en/faq ------------------------------------------- Remove ALL power and reseat all cards, memory, and cables (both ends when possible) - actually remove and replace - do not just snug. Remove the dust bunnies and clean the vents. Check that the fans work (before and after opening the case). If a laptop about all you can do is reseat the memory and clean the vents (still can try adding a small fan as a test). This sounds like hardware so if the above does not help then you probably need the help of a real computer shop (not leeks and peeks at a Best Buy or other Big Box Stores) or the System Maker's Support. =========================================================== Check this thread for information on using BlueScreenView, MyEventViewer, and other methods to troubleshoot BlueScreens - top 3 replies (+1 other). http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/thread/c675b7b8-795f-474d-a1c4-6b77b3fcd990 ---------------------------------------------------------- This is usually heat related, defective hardware, memory or even processor though it is "possible" that it is driver related (rare). Hi, References to Vista also apply to Windows 7. This is my generic how to for proper driver updates : This utility makes it easy to see which versions are loaded : DriverView - Free - utility displays the list of all device drivers currently loaded on your system. For each driver in the list, additional useful information is displayed: load address of the driver, description, version, product name, company that created the driver, and more. http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/driverview.html For Drivers check System Maker as fallbacks and Device Maker's which are the most current. Control Panel - Device Manager - Display Adapter - write down the make and complete model of your video adapter - double click - Driver's tab - write down the version info. Now click UPdate Driver (this may not do anything as MS is far behind certifying drivers) - then Right Click - Uninstall - REBOOT this will refresh the driver stack. Repeat that for Network - Network Card (NIC), Wifi, Sound, Mouse and Keyboard if 3rd party with their own software and drivers and any other major device drivers you have. Now go to System Maker's site (Dell, HP, Toshiba as examples) (as rollback) and then Device Maker's site (Realtek, Intel, Nvidia, ATI as examples) and get their latest versions. (Look for BIOS, Chipset and software updates at System Maker's site while there.) Download - SAVE - go to where you put them - Right Click - RUN AD ADMIN - REBOOT after each installation. Always check in Device Manager - Drivers tab to be sure the version you are installing actually shows up. This is because some drivers rollback before the latest is installed (sound drivers particularly do this) so install a driver - reboot - check to be sure it is installed and repeat as needed. Repeat at Device Makers - BTW at Device Makers DO NOT RUN THEIR SCANNER - check manually by model. Manually look at manufacturer's sites for drivers - and Device Maker's sites. http://pcsupport.about.com/od/driverssupport/ht/driverdlmfgr.htm Installing and updating drivers in Windows 7 (updating drivers manually using the methods above is preferred to ensure the latest drivers from System maker and Device makers are found) http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43216-installing-updating-drivers-7-a.html If you update drivers manually then it is a good idea to disable Driver Installations in Windows Updates, this leaves Windows Updates ON however it will not install drivers which will usually be older and cause issues. If Updates suggests a new driver then HIDE it (Right Click on it) and then go look for new ones manually if you wish. How To Disable Automatic Driver Installation In Windows Vista - Drivers http://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/how-to-disable-automatic-driver-installation-in-windows-vista/ http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc730606(WS.10).aspx ========================================== Memory tests do not catch all errors such as mismatched memory (possible even for sticks that appear to be identical) and when faster memory is placed in system behind slower memory. Actually that was the game that I was playing.. thanks alot for your help, will try removing DT although I wasn't using DT since my game is an original and requires online authentication before actually running... Will try out your suggestions and see how it all turns out... By the way I have run some HDD and memory check tools from ultimate boot cd 5 and all turned out to be fine. Iam also attaching a photo of the blue screen on my skydrive, forgot to post it beforehand... Thanks!

Hi, Be sure to check with the game maker's support and forums as there could be known issues that are affecting your system such as conflicts with certain drivers, BIOS, chipset drivers, and others. Uninstalling DT and SPTD.sys might help you discover the root cause easier. And you can always re-install them. Photo is not really needed as the minidump contains the best data. 124 could indeed be hardware however it makes sense to try to rule out all the possibilities you can as that often leads to the root cause. Hope this helps.Rob Brown - Microsoft MVP <- profile - Windows Expert - Consumer : Bicycle - Mark Twain said it right.

I have flashed the previous bios again (1601) and still no errors after 4 - 5 hours of gaming, which until yesterday and today where giving me bluescreens.... I guess it could have been the bios update. I have played other intensive games such as Dead Space 2 and Bad Company 2, never crashed for me and with the same CPU installed. However if I see that I am getting another BSOD I will contact AMD. Thanks for your help, Edward.

Hi Iam still uncertain however that this could have solved the case, although it seems that the crash does not occur anymore, I want to try as Andre suggested and remove the overclock, contacted an AMD forum, it seems that the crash can occur if the CPU is overclocked and does not have enough volage when under load... Since my motherboard cannot tweak the voltage, will try removing the overclock aswell...
