guest account keeps enabling itself
I have disabled the guest account twice now on my Win 7 laptop and the guest account has enabled itself again for the third time. I have found no info generally online to help. How can it do it by itself without asking permission? Can you help?

Guest account could be enabled or disabled with Group Policy (local or domain).

Thank you for your answer. Would it be possible to guide me with some instructions on how to carry this out? The HP laptop's HP Advisor suggests that the Guest Account should be disabled for security reasons, but as mentioned, the laptop keeps on trying to set it up. I am also using stinger to see if I have picked something up. I have removed the laptop from the XP network as a precaution. The laptop is not part of a server setup. I do not believe that I have altered any settings to make it set up automatically but I am willing to check out the settings you suggest. Many thanks

Write gpedit.msc in command line and check marked setting on picture. It shuld be in disabled state. Next you should check for some software on your PC that might enable guest account at windows boot. You can help with Install HP PC Health Check downloaded from HP suport site.

Thank you for your suggestion but unfortunately gpedit.msc is not available on my version of Win 7 Home Premium.

Yes, it was the HP Health Check that alerted me to the Guest Account being enabled on startup. The Guest Account has decided not to enable itself after running Stinger which took a mammoth 15 hours. I set Stinger to do a very high level scan and for it to repair itself. I was not alerted to any problems but since running it the gremlin has disappeared - I hope for good!

Hi, Is the UAC function enabled on the computer? If not, please enable it to check whether there are any applications to enable the guest. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

I will send this fix info to my daughter at uni as the guest account did enable itself once again. I will advise her to check the 'Change User Account Control settings' in User Accounts if available in Home Premium Edition of Win 7. I saw a registry edit on another site but would only advise her if Microsoft could advise the correct registry entry changes. Many thanks
