I have a startup monitor that keeps wanting to add grpconv -0 to my startup list. All the looking up I've done ot grpconv refers to old operating systems like Win95 and Win98. I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit. Should I allow it? My computer dual boots Windows 7 and XP Pro. I only go in to Windows 7 maybe a couple times a week so it can get updates. I have added no new applications to it for months. It just started doing this the last two times I booted it. It happens right after bootup. Any comments?

in Windows 7 do this.... you need to run cmd as administrator, (type search box cmd in the start menu, at the top you should find the tool displayed , right click on it and run as administrator)use bcdedit command line utility and back up your current Boot configuration. bcdedit /export c:\folder\file. then allow it to do the changes. Make sure you have a system repair disc made from start -> programs -> maintenance. Example: The following command exports the system store to the specified file: bcdedit /export "C:\Data\BCD Backup" then you can see the differences in the boot configuration file. with bcdedit /v or bcdedit /enum I am assuming that you get the message only when you boot in windows 7, right? I am not having any problem with the bootloader. My current configuration is already backed up. I have VistaBoot Pro installed and that has the option to do that. But this notice that grpconv -0 is not coming up till most everything else is booted in Windows 7. I have a utility called Startup Monitor that alerts me whenever something is trying to add itself. If I didn't have the monitor, it would have just added itself and I'd probably never know the difference. I can remember seeing that entry in the msconfig startup section on other computers and always wondered what it was. Obviously some app or routine is trying to add it. I just can't figure out what its purpose is in Windows 7. I am currently in the process of transferring my data from the old computer to the new one and plan on making the switch today. Since I will primarily be using XP I will probably wait till next week until I pursue the Windows 7 thing any more. If you still think it could be something in the bootloader file then I'll consider doing the steps you outlined. Thanks
