If you have XP Home, you can still manipulate all of the Group Policy items via the registry (there is a list). The Group Policy Editor just makes things prettier, but it is not necessary. Some malware seems to be aware of XP Home and will disable certain policy functionality like Task Manger, System Restore, etc. with Group Policy changes to keep you from removing the malware. You know the message: System Restore had been turned off by group policy. To turn on System Restore contact your domain Administrator.Sometimes even in XP Pro GPEdit itself is disabled by malicious software, but there is alway a way to fix things. If you have XP Home where there is no GPEdit, what non awkward things are you going to do to fix it? (you don't repair, System Restore, or reinstall - puh-lease - and I have no CDs).It helps to know where all these policy things are in the registry and how to fix them without using GPEdit.Do you really think suggestions that begin with the words try , might or maybe are going to be helpful?I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I put a copy of the spreadsheet on my Windows Live SkyDrive (everybody here has one for file sharing and downloading files):http://cid-6a7e789cab1d6f39.office.live.com/browse.aspx/.DocumentsEven though the file says Windows Server 2003, it has all the policies listed for lesser versions of XP too.If you are seeing XP Home features turned off or disabled by Group Policy, chances are I already know how to fix them easily. Sometimes malicious software will also disable regedit too, but that is an easy problem to fix too, then you can fix the other things.Remember that there is no undo or quit without saving option in regedit. If you make a mistake, that's it.Before making any changes to your registry by hand or with third party tools, be sure to make a backup of the registry first. Here is a link to a popular free registry backup tool:http://www.snapfiles.com/get/erunt.html Do, or do not. There is no try.I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!
