WHICH 'microsoft update site' are you talking about? - Windows Update itself, or what? WRT actually solving you current problem....Boot to Safe Mode - Open Device Managerlook there for any yellow or red-lagged items - REMOVE all of them.reboot to Safe Mode - Windows should reinstall anything you removed. Now look in Device Manager again - are any devices showing as red- or yellow- flagged? If so, then post back with details. Losing Restore points is a common problem after an infestation - it's one ofthe target points. Since when have you had to 'Log On' to Windows Updates?? - please give EXACTerror message that appear when you try to access Windows Updates. Again, it's a common target point for trojans, etc. Your problems all seem to be related to an infestation - how certain are youthat you've cured it? Please download, install and update MalwareBytes Anti-Malware from http://malwarebytes.org -then run it and see what it reports - Delete EVERYTHING it finds. Then post back with the results.
