full access file sharing between 2 win7 machines (simple)
hi, This is probably a very simple question, I've somehow managed to use my new wifi router and made a workgroup that includes my desktop and laptop computers.Certain partitions between them are shared on the network. Now, the only problem I'm having is I want full write access from both pcs. When I go into Sharing>Permissions>Add>Users I can't seem to see the other pcs user name? What am I supposed to do? Add the same username for the other pc? Thanks Gideon -Gideon MCTS:Windows Development and C# geek.

Hi Gideon, You'll need to set up a Homegroup: Control Panel > Network and the Internet > Homegroup... When you've done that, you can share folders: Right-click the folder > Share with... > Homegroup [Read/Write] Easy! Andy

I already have a homegroup setup, I just can't seem to configure write access. See the screenshot, I can't add users from Gideon-Deskie on Gideon-Lappy.(Desktop and Laptop) http://www.sevenforums.com/attachments/network-sharing/40705d1260116396-full-access-file-sharing-between-2-win7-machines-simpl-win7.jpg-Gideon MCTS:Windows Development and C# geek.

Hi giddy,After looking at thescreenshot from the above link, itseems to be anetwork share but not a homegroup share. Under the sharing permissions, you already have everyone permissions, there is no need to add the computer user name. The reason why you don't have full access to the shared disk can be releted permissions under Security tab. I recommend you to check the permissions under Security tab and manually add Everyone account. To do this, please refer to the following steps:1) Right click the shared disk and click Properties.2) Click Security tab.3) Click Edit.4) Click Add.5) Enter "Everyone" and click OK.Please note: make sure to check Full control box under Permissions for Everyone. Then access the disk to see if you own write permission.
