ftp to laptop from camera
I am trying to connect my camera to my computer. I have the wifi setup, and tested. It connects with other protocols. What I am trying to set up now is via FTP. The camera has settings for FTP transfer. But I don’t know how to set up FTP on windows 7 ultimate to receive the files. I have used FTP for years but always to other servers. With the wifi setup ad-hoc, with a dedicated IP. Is security a realistic problem? How do you set up to receive via FTP on win7. Thanks Robert

Well you need to install and setup an FTP server. (IIS as an FTP server but it is very lame) http://www.cerberusftp.com/ and if you have a good secure password on the ad-hoc you should be OK but AD-HOC can be flaky.

If you want to enable FTP on Windows 7 without any program, you can go in Turn Windows Features on or off > Internet Information Services and check the FTP Server. But its a poor solution. If you want more flexibility, try to use FileZilla (http://filezilla-project.org/), that is a freeware and may attend you. Be sure that your camera is transfering via FTP and not TFTP, that is a diferrent protocol. After installing your FTP Server, check your firewall configuration to allow the connection needed. About security, the problem in FTP is the transfer of username and password in clear text. If a machine can connect to the ad-hoc network and listen your connection is relative easy to capture the username and password used in connection of the FTP Server. If this is a problema to you, you should consider another transfer setting. Good Luck Se foi útil, não se esqueça de Marcar como Resposta. Cláudio Costa - http://claudio-costa.blogspot.com

I see how to install the "FTP server" Now I am looking for how to configure it? I assume I can configure it to limit the IP of the client.

Now i See the problem. 1 - You must install the FTP Server Feature with FTP Service enabled; 2 - You can install the Web Management Tool\IIs Management Console; 3 - Now you open the console in Administrative Tools, Right Click in "Sites" and click in "Add FTP Site" 4 - Now you can configure it.
