Get something other than dial-up.(Even novices have to provide pertinent information.) Windows XP _____ Edition with Service Pack _, __-bit?Start button --> RUN (No "RUN", press the Windows_Key+R at the same time) --> type in: winver--> Click OK. That will give you (picture at top) the full name of the operating system. That will give you (in the text) the Service Pack you have installed. Internet connection you have (from your Internet Service Provider - what is it called and what "speed" do you pay for?) Upstream and downstream speeds they advertised when you bought it and what your bill tells you that you should get? How you connect to the Internet - meaning the physical cable - would be what? USB? Ethernet? Wireless? What antivirus solution you have? Find out what your Internet uploads and download speeds are supposed to be from your Internet Service Provider to be sure you are getting what you are paying for. If you have never verified it or don't know what it is supposed to be, now is a good time to figure it out.Test your upload and download speeds yourself and see if there is an issue or not. You can use some Google searches for free download speed testing sites. Here are a couple sites you can use to test your speeds:http://www.bandwidth.com/tools/speedTest/http://www.speedtest.net/ (Comcast likes this one)Even if there is no issue that you can see, get your ISP technical support Internet people on the phone while you are in front of your system and tell them that you just think your connection speed is too slow (don't tell them what you know yet from your own testing). They do this stuff all day long so they know how to do it.Ask them what download and upload speeds you are paying for (they can look it up) and that you would be much obliged if they would help you verify your speeds. Usually they will direct you to some web site they prefer to use and do the test. If your speeds are not what you are paying for, make them help you figure it out and fix it. If they balk, tell the you want a refund on all the time you have been paying for something they have not been delivering. After you are sure your download and upload speeds are reasonable, then you can start looking at your system and see what you can do to increase the performance (probably a lot of things), but I would rule out a problem with your connection first. Performance problems from system configuration issues you can deal with. Please provide additional information about your system:Describe your current antivirus and anti malware situation: McAfee, Norton, Spybot, AVG, Avira!, MSE, Defender, ZoneAlarm, PC Tools, Comodo, etc.Click Start, Run and in the box enter:msinfo32Click OK, and when the System Summary info appears, click Edit, Select All, Copy and then paste the information back here. There will be some personal information (like System Name and User Name), and whatever appears to be private information to you, just delete it from the pasted information. This will minimize back and forth Q&A and eliminate guesswork.Do you really think suggestions that begin with the words try, might or maybe are going to be helpful?I need YOUR votes and points for helpful replies and Propose as Answers. I am saving up for a pony!
