files delet automatically
I've read the threads re emails being deleted automatically from the inbox in Windows Live Mail - but I'm also getting files deleted from other directories also. If I click on a file on the desktop to open it I get a report that it can't be found. (It has been moved to the wastebin - where I can restore it to the desktop. If I look at pictures in Windows photo gallery - all the images in the folder are removed to the wastebin. Messages about really wanting to delete them permanently flash up without me trying to remove them and I have to click cancel for each file to stop them being permanenltly deleted and to restore them to their original location. I've done a complete virus scan but it has shown nothing up.Help!

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. For further troubleshooting, may I ask the following questions: 1. I noticed that all locations you mentioned above are related to user profile, does the issue occur with other locations such as none system disk? I may also need to suggest that you log on with another account and see if the issue occurs. 2. What is the name of your anti-virus? Is it updated? Do you install any anti-malware software? You can try some free online scan tool to detect your computer. Example: Online Scanner Note: Microsoft provides third-party contact information to help you find technical support. This contact information may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this third-party contact information. 3. When are these files deleted? I would like to suggest that you create a new file on desktop, and open it. 4. Could you please give us a detailed message? I recommend that you shot a screen and post in this thread. Screenshot ========== 1) Press the Print Screen key (PrtScn) on your keyboard. 2) Click the "Start" menu, type "mspaint" in the Search Bar and Press Enter. 3) In the Paint program, click the "Edit" menu, click "Paste", click the "File" menu, and click "Save". 4) The "Save As" dialogue box will appear. Type a file name in the "File name:" box, for example: "screenshot". 5) Make sure "JPEG (*.JPG;*.JPEG;*.JPE;*.JFIF)" is selected in the "Save as type" box, click Desktop on the left pane and then click "Save". 6) Upload this picture to SkyDrive ( www.skydrive.live.com ), then edit what you reply with HTML. 7) Insert the following code. <IMG height=600 alt=08 src="URL of the picture" width=800> Note: URL of the picture = the URL to the picture that you want to post. Hope this helps. Thanks.

thanks for the response. I ended up doing a complete factory reset on my PC (Painful!) and it has taken a few days to get back to where I was. I thought all was fine until I switched on today and found another beast of a problem. Currently my PC will not let me access anything but the first item in any window. In email, no matter what email I click onto in the inbox list it always opens the first one. When I try to catalogue a drive it always cats the Cdrive. When I try to select from a menu-all I can get is the first on the list. When I try to type the text I type is reversed - so 'http' becomes ptth - I can't even get to the online scan. I tried a sys retore (sys came u up as sys, and was able to select it from the search menu) However following that I'm still getting the same problem and when I try a further restore I can only choose the first option which is to'undo' the restore I have just done. I can't even pick up a shortcut for the online restore suggestion from a removable disc since all I can access is the C drive. This reply was sent via my laptop which is thankfully behaving.I think I'm about to do another factory reset!

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I suspect it is virus, I recommend that you boot in Safe Mode to run anti-virus and scan the whole disk first. Meanwhile, you can also contact your antivirus vendor for assistance with identifying or removing virus or worm infections. If you need more help with virus-related issues, contact Microsoft Product Support Services. For support within the United States and Canada, call toll-free (866) PCSAFETY (727-2338). For support outside the United States and Canada, visit the Product Support Services Web page (http://support.microsoft.com/?pr=SecurityHome By the way, the officially recommended method is still to format and re-install the compromised computer from a known good build. Hope this helps. Thanks.

Hi Dale, thaks for your interest and responses. In the end I spoke to a local techie at PC World after being unable to even do a factory reset - I couldn't even get the bios to change to read my DVD drive because of the 'first thing in a list' problem.Unbelieveably, when I took my tower in,it responded asit should have and I could access the BIOS(although I'd lost all the info on each partition) Seems that it was my faulty keyboard!!!!!! When I changed it for another I was able to restore my PC. I'm still in the process of downloading updates etc. but at leastI know it wasn't a virus!!! A salutory lesson for all who read this - trustyour anti-virus program and take a widerlook at the problem!Great to know that help is out there!
