file lock out
I would like to prevent others to look into certain file folders. Is there a way to lock a folder in windows 7?

Sure - if the users are not Administrators on that machine you can adjust the folder properties (right click folder, select Properties) using the Security tab. Or with the command line tool icacls. If the user is member of the Administrators group, he will be able to claim access back. Another, more harsh (but in certain situations also dangerous) option would be to encrypt the folder, but this works only on certain versions of Windows 7 (Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise). Hi, For more information, see To Encrypt a folder a file and When should I encrypt files and folders? You can also tend to some third party software like Winzip to do the job for you. Note: The third-party product discussed here is manufactured by a company that is independent of Microsoft. We make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
