file copying and moving in windows 7
Hi, 1. I noticed that when I copy a file to a folder with a file of the same name instead of asking if you want to overwrite the file windows 7 just makes a copy of the file and adds copy to the file name. Is there anyway to have the file just overwritten like in XP? I have never used Vista. 2. I somehow accidently unpinned windows explorer from the task bar when the system froze up.I went to the system32 folder and right clicked on explorer.exe and clicked on pin to taskbar. It says pinned to taskbar, but it is not on the taskbar. Anyone have any idea how to repin explorer to the taskbar when it says pinned but it actually is not? Thanks,Stuart

I'd suspect that there's something wrong with your installation. When I copy a file to a folder that already contains a file with the same name - I get the dialog asking me to keep/replace/copy.As for the repinning, I'd suggest double clicking on explorer.exe to open it - then right click on the TaskBar icon and select Pin to TaskBar from there. Maybe this will work around your difficulties with explorer.exe- John

Hi John, No that did not work, anyway I have the explorer icon on my desktop as usual, so I guess it really does not matter about the pinning. I have show all icons enabled for the taskbar notifications area, could that be the problem? When I right click on explorer.exe in the windows folder it says pinned to taskbar. The installation is fine. I am using an older PC though from 2005. AMD Sempron 2800+. Gigabyte motherboard with K8M800 chipset, onboard graphics does not allow aero.Stuart

for pinning explorer again to taskbar open start menu type windows explorer there in the search bar, it shows the first result of it then right click on it and click on the pin to task bar option or just drag it to the task bar......you'll get it back to the task bar.andfor your first problem go to control panel and select folder option and then check for the settings..
