explorer.exe fails to start with error 0xc000007b; no apparent ways of fixing
Hi, everybody. I've been having some issues with my computer recently, and I haven't found a viable solution yet. explorer.exe isn't able to start up, with the error 0xc000007b. All of the normal solutions I've come across don't work. I have seen multiple instances where sfc /scannow fixes the problem, but it doesn't work: "Windows Resource Protection could not start the repair service." To worsen things even more, all System Restore points are apparently corrupted. I've tried restoring on [i]every single point I possibly could[/i] to no avail. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium on a desktop. There's not much more info I can get without explorer.exe; sorry.

Hi, you might try the SFC offline: http://mikemstech.blogspot.com/2011/12/how-to-perform-offline-system-integrity.html -- Mike Burr Enterprise High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and Business Continuity Planning Learn to Troubleshoot Windows BSODs

I finally managed to create an installation disc and get the SFC up and working, but there were files it wasn't able to fix. In CBS.log, at the end of the file, there are multiple "Failed to load/Failed to initialize" errors, such as: Failed to load C:\Windows\System32\DrUpdate.dll [HRESULT = 0x8007007e - ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND] Failed to initialize Core DLL: C:\Windows\winscs\amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17592_none_672ce6c3de2cb17f\cbscore.dll [HRESULT = 0x8007007e - ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND] Failed to initialize CBS Core. [HRESULT = 0x8007007e - ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND] Failed to initialize Trusted Installer. [HRESULT = 0x8007007e - ERROR_MOD_NOT_FOUND] Sorry if I messed anything up - I had to type this out.

Hi, Firstly, based on your current log, I suggest to copy the file DrUpdate.dll and the folder amd64_microsoft-windows-servicingstack_31bf3856ad364e35_6.1.7601.17592_none_672ce6c3de2cb17f from another Functioning Windows 7 to this Windows 7, run SFC again and see how it works. If issue persists, Im afraid that you have to perform an In-place upgrade or reinstall your Windows 7. Hope this helps. Jeremy Wu TechNet Community Support
