1. Remove as many documents (DOC, TXT, MP3, WAV) etc from your DESKTOP. Keeping too many items on desktop is # 1 killer of computer performance (given evrything else is normal & uninfected).2. Installed software is leaking memory. So, Check any software tha is not updated. Most software vendors, including Microsoft, want you to buy newer version. If there is a need change to Linux and customize your applications.3. Increase RAM size to 3GB for WinXP, Vista32, and 8GB for Vista64, Win7.4. Get newer computer (read #2).5. Do a fresh re-install of WinXP. After patching with post-SP3 updates, wait for two weeks to know your system performance. Then and then only install additional non-microsoft softwares, including Adobe (crapware).6. Do not install any toolbars fromGoogle, Ask.com, Yahoo, Skype, AOL, MSN. Keep only tolbar from your antivirus vendor since they do better job than Google's crapware -- Desktop.7. It is unspoken, but understood that Microsoft is killing XP so that corporations move to Win7. Corporations ain't spendin' those moeny in this ecocnomy, hence Microsoft is degrading WinXP performance so that users will move to buy a new PC (and oEM Win7). Old trick done to irritate users. Try Scientific Linux on your computer...will work as if your computer is atleast 3x powerful than you thought. That is IMHO.
