error with skipped files back up- 0x80070002 and 0x80070057
Dear Community, I am only a novice and at a loss what to do - Windows 7 32 bit backing to a Seagate 1TB External Hard Drive. I have read the knowledge page and can not make any sense of it. I do not know computers. I have an issue with my backing up and it skipping one file. I recently had my external hard drive crash. It looks like one file location that causes the issue. What can I do to rectify the situation so that I can back in a manner that creates a clean back up to my external hard drive? Any assistance will be appreciated. Here is the screen shot and log file https://skydrive.live.com/redir?resid=7A797BF1CB645296!413 Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\SkyDrive. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) Melissa Lindsay

I dont know how to expian it to you so you will understand? Your back-up is OK. You need to change your back-up setting to "not" include any external shared drives, like sky drive, libraries that go to "non" local drives. (drives that are physicaly attached to a different pc that are shared over to another pc cannot be backed up from "non" attached pc). Windows will try, but the error will persist. You can set action center to "not" notify you of the error. And then you wont have the prompt. The error prompt is annoying, yes, but I dont have any other answer.

So in fact the files have been backed up. Why did it not include that location? I have updated my Skydrive to include some more screen shots of what I am seeing. Is this what you mean by changing the external shared drives. I do not understand the error - Backup encountered a problem while backing up file C:\Windows\System32\config\systemprofile\SkyDrive. Error:(The system cannot find the file specified. (0x80070002)) I do not know if all the files are backed up. I must admit that I have tried one fix that I found on Microsoft Communities : http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/windows-7-backup-error-0x80070002/1541f68b-a430-41c5-9f87-1b10c9ce35b4?page=1&tm=1361129833686 I tried Scenario Number Two In my experience, the backup fails with the 0x80070002 error because of two things: 1) The built-in administrator account is disabled (it is disabled by default in Win7) 2) The Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service is enabled *Possible solution (!!Use at your own risk!!): --------------------I recommend doing both --------------------------- 1) Enable the built-in Administrator account (you can disable it again after backup), this can be done several ways. The two most common ways are: From elevated cmd prompt type: net user administrator /active:yes OR Right-click Computer select Manage expand Local Users and Groups on the left by clicking the little arrow select users right-click Administrator and select properties un-check 'account is disabled' click Apply click OK 2) Disable the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service , this also can be done several ways. The two most common ways are: msconfig click the Start Menu type msconfig in the "search programs and files" entry box (or from Run dialog box)select the Services tab at the top of the window un-check the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service click Apply click OK (you may see some warnings or notifications, click OK) restart the computer OR services.msc click the Start Menu type services.msc in the "search programs and files" entry box (or from Run dialog box)select the Windows Media Player Network Sharing Service fro the list at the rightright-click it and select properties set Startup type to disabled click Apply click OK restart the computer After doing the above I have noted the following: I also have noted that I have gone into my documents and WMPNetworkSvc has the property to read all my documents. Why would that be on my security tab on my documents? What is the default setting for Windows 7 32 bit? I am at a loss. I have never had this problem with backing up again. I have previously backed up with no messages prompting. Is it a Windows problem? Melissa Lindsay
