What does your mail service provider say when you contact them?Brian Tillman [MVP-Outlook]------------------------------If a reply helps, please vote it as helpful. If a reply solves the issue, please mark it as an answer.

I'm using Outlook Express 6. For years I've been sending and receiving emails without issues. I sent and received just fine 2 days ago (July 17, 2010). Like David, today (July 19) I simply can NOT send emails. I receive emails just fine. I did NOT turn my computer on yesterday. Nothing about my mail settings (or computer for that matter) have changed since Saturday.I'm getting the following error message:Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of inactivity. Account: 'default email', Server: 'mail.wavecable.com', Protocol: SMTP, Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Error Number: 0x800CCC0FThis is obviously NOT a connection problem as I am receiving email, can send and receive from my webmail (mail provider) account, and clearly have an internet connection (how else could I be posting this message!!). I can ping my mail server from a command prompt - no error messages. I've created a new mail profile - still can't send. I do NOT have a Mail Settings icon in my Control Panel, nor is there a "Repair" option on any mail account setting screen. I'm running XP Home SP3. I've contacted my service proviider and verified that my outgoing mail server is working just fine. I've turned my virus program off even tho it didn't cause problems 2 days ago, and I still can not send from Outlook Express.I am completely stumped.....anyone have any ideas?? Thanx in advance

The OP has an entirely different prblem with Microsof Outlook, not Outlook Express. You should have started your own new thread instead of hitching a ride on his one.For your issue.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your emailhttp://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmNote that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises. I have the same problem, my message error is 0x800CCC79. Is there somewhere you can type in this number and a clue provided on how to fix it? I had the same problem last year and Microsoft fixed it, now they sent me to this site.???

Please start your own new thread, thank you.If you do mean Outlook, please ask here and not in this forum.Microsoft Office Outlook Forumshttp://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/category/officeoutlookIf you mean Outlook Express, then this is the correct forum. Regardless of the e-mail client, we need to see more than just the error number. Please post any error message in its entirety. You can left click on it to highlight and then right click to copy and then paste it into your new thread.Bruce HagenMS-MVP Oct. 1, 2004 ~ Sept. 30, 2010Imperial Beach, CA
