error code 80240038 on vista ultimate 32 bit
hey guys, i have a problem with vista ultimate, 32 bit (error code 80240038). i cannot update vista without instaling the existing updates and i get the above error code when i try to instal the existing update. this is going on for a month now. i cleaned my drives and reloaded vista ultimate about 5 weeks ago. i followed the links for this error code all over places and read things that went WAY over my head to understand. this error code is all over the internet when i bing it but run into sites that wana sell more software to fix microsoft problems. the adds go something like this... "2 minutes can save you months of frustration and crashes" LOL. i've paid for these kinds of softwares for years and just got numb and used to being frustrated using microsoft. i googled it and was able to come here to state my problem. i will also post this problem to the microsoft offical support group. i need this update to be installed righ so i can get to service pack 1 and then service pack 2 updates. because microsoft requires service pack 2 for other things on my system to work right. my update history says everything has been going fine so far but i've been stucked here. my email address is kc_koopal@hotmail.com and i reall would appreciate help on this. thanks and hope your solotion works for me.should have alternative computing if you are using microsoft

Hi, The error code 80240038 can be caused by the failed proxy server, Windows Firewall or anti-virus. To resolve this kind of issue, I would like to propose the following suggestions: 1. Temporarily disable any security software and turn off Windows Firewall, then perform update again. 2. Please test to boot in Clean Boot to perform update. 3. If you have ISA installed, switch the proxy or bypass the ISA to update. more information for your reference: Windows Update Error code 80240038 You experience problems when you access the Windows Update Version 6 Web site through a server that is running ISA Server Regards, Sabrina This posting is provided "AS IS" with no warranties or guarantees, and confers no rights. |Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. thank you Sabrina. i have read the solution you have proposed (turning off the virous protection software) in other threads and even removing the virous protection software. i have a proxy on my windows 7 ultimate connected through wireless service provider. my vista is connected through the university's broad band and proxies are not allowed. the night before last a student from the linux user group came over with a flash memory full of hacker's tool, updates and fixes for windows and in 15 minutes solved my problem and updated my vista ultimate to the latest version using the updates he had on his removable disc. you know in china nobody pays for microsoft products and they have their own ways of getting everything microsoft has. but don't worry i have refused what they have to offer except the fixes and i've even paid $100 extra for shipping vista ultimate from the USA over 3 years ago because you can't find a genion vista ultimate in china lol. all my microsoft products are fully paid and genion and i insist for my students to do the same. but they don't listen, you know how kids are, don't you? he was angry at me as to why i still use windows when i also have linux installed as a dual system with every thing i need + more and all for free. i tried to explain how difficult it is for people to change and learn something new. but he didn't wana listen and instead gave me an assignment that is to give a lecture to the math and computer club about algorithm, algorithm desgin and compare linux with windows. i love these kids. they are sooooo smart.should have alternative computing if you are using microsoft
