error code 0xc0000225

I was given a laptop to take a look at with hopes I could fix it. However I'm running into issues, and for some reason I can't figure out next steps.

When the computer boots, it goes right to the screen saying 'PC needs to be repaired, with error code error code 0xc0000225

however, when I push F8 the screen just flashes back, It won't boot to disk at all, and won't let me do anything, just keeps popping that screen back up. So before I pull the HD to back up the stuff on it, I'd like to know if there is any possible way I can get in it to at least try to repair it. My initial plan was to rebuild the MBR, but I can't even get past that screen.

In researching, and in past experience, Windows 8 and 8.1 are supposed to automatically go to start up repair options. This is also not happening.

Help please...

And to clarify, I have gone through the other related posts, but they are of no use to me, as I can't get to any repair options, not the WindowsRE or command prompt... It's just weird...

Hi,

Please know that status: 0xc0000225 means Windows cannot find the System Files used for booting. The causes may be the following things.

1. The System files are corrupt.

2. The disk File system has bad configuration.

3. Hardware fault.

To boot into Windows Recovery environment, we need the recovery image or partition in your computer or the installation disk.

First, I suggest contacting manufacturer to do a hardware testing.

Also, Lets try to boot into WinRE by using recovery disk or bootable USB, then try to repair the system if you have Windows 8.

How to Create Bootable Windows 8 USB Drive from ISO Image

http://www.guidingtech.com/10026/create-bootable-windows-8-usb-drive-iso-image/

If you have Windows 8.1 media, we can also try to reset your system by using this.

We need to boot into BIOS to change the boot order to start from other media except local HDD, then we can enter WinRE.

Hope these could be helpful.

I am able to access the drive and all the files externally through my Sata enclosure, which is how I ultimately backed up the data. I have a bootable disc, but it won't boot to the disk. It just boots to the error screen and gives me no other option. I have run a test on the actual hard drive and it appears to be fine.

The laptop is out of warranty through ASUS by 2 weeks. When the owner called them, they told her they couldn't help her, but for 200$ she could send it to them to analyze. Unfortunately she is a full time student with 2 kids and doesn't have the money to do that. Hence why she called me as this is what I do, but this is the first time I've have this occur, where I'm unable to boot into WinRE by disk or USB, and it won't allow me to do repair the boot files that way.

unable to boot into WinRE by disk or USB

Check the user manual.  There may be a keyboard shortcut you need to switch the boot device order.

Hi,

We need to enter BIOS to change the boot order:

ASUS - p5b, a7v600, a7v8x, a8n, a8v, k8v, m2n, p5k, p5n, etc.
Press Del right after starting the computer to enter BIOS.

Some other ASUS motherboards use Ins and some, like the p5bw-le, use F10 instead.

Otherwise, as Robert mentioned, find the manual book or contact AUSU support for help.

I've had the exact same problem too, mine was caused when i flashed the bios with an unlocked bios. I can boot into some versions of linux. I don't understand why I can't boot into windows or boot from a windows cd... Any ideas?

Here's where I'm at so far...

Product Name: HP Pavilion Dv7 Notebook

I am trying to flash the orginal bios back to my laptop. I no longer have the orginal hard drive. So I am using the external usb bios recovery method. When I boot the computer with the "Windows Key" & "B" pressed when powering on the computer I just get a blank screen the usb drive just has a steady blink, it doesn't looking like it's trying to read any files on the usb drive.

So my main question is why does it go blank? Is there any other ways to flash the original bios back on? Can I do it via dos? If do I need special switches included in the command line? Or can I just run the dos flash utility?

So here's what I've got:

HP Pavilion Dv7 Notebook
Product Number: VM188UA#ABA
BIOS Verison: InsydeH20 Rev. 3.5 F.1D

So below is a quick synopsis of my what I've done so far.  This all started because I wanted to unlock some features in the bios. So I headed over to bios mod's website & BDMaster a forum Moderator supplied me with an unlocked bios for my laptop. Well now when I try to boot to windows or boot to install a new copy of windows from DVD I get this error with the error code being: Oxc0000225

I"ve been trying to get into Windows so that I can use InsydeH20 flash utility to flash the original bios back and hopefully that will fix it. But I can't seem to get into windows to do that. I've tried like Windows to go, WinToUSB and I'm working on Windows PE now in hopes that works.

I've even tried installing windows XP but the install fails.

've tried downloading the HP UEFI Utility  and used it in combination with Andy's tools. I don't think my bios is encrypted, but I did use the tool to find out the name that I should use for my bios. It suggested E.BI? C.BI? C.BI? So I'm assuming I just put two copies in the H:\Hewlett-Packard\BIOS\Current\ folder one being E.BIN and the other being C.BIN -does that look right?  I didn't think so... but I did try just having E.Bin and C.Bin in the current folder and that didn't seem to work.

So anyways I plugin the flash drive with the computer off, and I press & hold "Windows Key" and "B" and power on the computer my screen goes blank and the USB drive just does a steady blink there is no sound or anything else that occurs.

Suggested I used the names of 363E.bin 363C.bin 3658.bin 3659.bin 365C.bin so I tried those names, now all I'm doing is putting a copy of all those in my current folder on the flash drive. When I boot up I still get the blank screen when trying to flash the bios. It's as if it's not loading the HP Flash recovery utility, and the flash drive just does a steady blink. So any ideas as to why this is happening?

*To note under my battery it says 363-200

Am I doing everything right? Is there supposed to be other files on the HP_Boot flash drive besides the ones that it puts on the flash drive? Because all I'm doing is copying the bin file and renaming it to 363C.bin and putting it into the current folder. I've also tried some other names that I listed above.

I can still get into bios if I need, which is the unlocked version , but can't boot to windows or install windows because I get a oxc0000225 error.

I can boot to some versions of linux, but I don't know much about linux

So I'm not sure what to do at this point? Do you have any ideas? If I could just get it to a point where I could just plain fix it and get it to boot or get it to a point where I could flash the old bios I think I would be in good shape.

Any ideas would be helpful, I will come back to post if I have success. Please help

Thank you all very much

I had the same problem on a HP elitedesk 800 G1.

I was able to start windows by pressing F9 (boot order) and choosing manually "Windows boot manager".

Then I updated the BIOS and presto the error didn't occurred anymore.

Hope it helps!
