This issue occurs if the system file is corrupt or lost. If there is any other Windows 7 system, please open the folder C:\Windows\Vss\Writers\System\, copy the file 75DFB225-E2E4-4d39-9AC9-FFAFF65DDF06.xml to the same location on the problematic computer. If the issue still occurs, temporary remove the anti-virus and check the result again. If it does not help, please do In-place Upgrade to repair the system with the Windows 7 RC installation disc.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I have seen the same error number on occasion with different information: Express Writer error: failed while adding express writers from directory System. Operation: Log Name: ApplicationSource: VSS Event ID: 6016 Task Category: NoneLevel: Warning Keywords: ClassicUser: N/AOpCode:Nothing happened at the time so I don't know what was going on when the error was generated, I just happened to look at the log later. The only issue I have had with VSS was when I tried to run Windows backup and it failed (posted here), however, I have run Macrium Reflect free backup software, which uses VSS, successfully.

Hi ,i have a similar issue as well with the exclamation(!) thing inside the yellow triangle,but the funny thing is that updates are working perfectly and system restore is just fine with no issues....so dont know why that is shown as a VSS issue if its just fine maybe thats a general bug with win7 reports...Kind regards,RR

Yeah that explains it all and i always ignored those messages cause i knew something wrong and was related to false alerts ,cause my system restore was always OK ....thanks for clearing things out Himanshu Kale!Regards,RR

I have had System Restore fail a few times--don't know why--and be OK other times. But my last install was plagued with issues I eventually traced to bad RAM; I'll see what happens this time. Still getting that same error in the logs, but now that Windows 7 finsl id do close, I'm not going to worry about it.
