error 0x80072efd
I have tried disabling all firewalls and nothing works. I have internet access but when i try to update ANYTHING (google chrome, earth, mcafee, windows defender and update) it all says i need to check my internet connection and mostly gives me the error code 0x80072efd. I was forced to install mcafee through safe mode but i can't get it to install updates and definitions. I assume it is due to the same problem preventing me from installing anything else. Is this a registry problem? pls help

Hi Aloha2go, Please temporary disable or remove McAfee and Windows Defender to see if the issue can be resolved. If the issue persists, please refer to the suggestions in this knowledge base (KB) article for further troubleshooting: You may encounter temporary connection-related errors when you use Windows Update or Microsoft Update to install updates Also, you can go to Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> View All -> Windows Update. Follow the wizard to see if the culprit can be found. Hope this helps. Regards, Linda

Besides disabling 3rd party firewalls one needs to check to see if a proxy issue is causing the error. In the KB article that Linda posted the link to, do Advanced Method B: Remove the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration first to see if a proxy is causing the issue. Also note that there is a hidden malware that can be the cause of the connection issue with Microsoft Update servers and can also prevent other applications/programs or browsers from being updated. Kaspersky offers a tool that will check for and, hopefully, remove said hidden malware if it is resident on the system: How to remove malware belonging to the family Rootkit.Win32.TDSS (aka Tidserv, TDSServ, Alureon)?MowGreen Windows Expert IT Pro - Consumer Security *-343-* FDNY NEVER FORGOTTEN
