I need to update BIOS in my computer, The problem is I can't boot the computer. I bought this laptop Gateway with no- operating system. install windows xp professional version. worked fine for several months but now when I tried to re-installed the windows xp it does not recognized the hard drive. any suggestions to resolve my problem 1 person needs an answerI do too

Is there an OS installed now? Are you able to install an OS, or are you unable to because the HD is not recognized? Have you tried resetting BIOS defaults after noting current BIOS settings?

Thank you for answering. Yes windows XP was installed and running before this problem appeared. did F-2, load setup defaults and rebooted the computer. same problem. Try F8 safe mode, did not work. The computer BIOS is version 42.03.01 by phoenix biosManagua

Is the system able to recognize another hard drive? If not, it seems the motherboard has failed, if you've loaded BIOS defaults, etc. to no avail. If so, then the HD that was not able to be recognized would seem to be faulty or incompatible in some way.
