erratic behaviour network in W7 RC1
it takes WAY too long for my network computers (with w-xp) to appear in the windows (7) explorer, and often they don't appear at all. nothing seems to help to speed things up UNTIL... suddenly they are there, or at least some of them.

Has this been working better for you lately? Have you found a solution? - Nick

Have seen the same. Have just tried switching to homegroup from work settings and network PCs appeared. Being old school I was expecting to set "workgroup" somewhere as that is the domain but I guess that is not necessary in RC? I found nowhere to do so anyway.Comments?

What do you have for your group settings on each computer?

Sorry for the delayed response as I've been away.RC is homegroup?/XP home, XP Pro, and Vista are workgroup. Is there a dialog where one can see the assignment on RC as there are in previous versions of Windows.Kevin

You will want to remove your Windows 7 machine from the homegroup. Assign it to the same group your other machines are in and you shouldn't have an issue.

If you note my previous post, adding to the homegroup made things work properly. As I stated I can not find where to assign to anything other than work or homegroup. Where is the "classic" networking view? Thanks for your reply.

You will want to remove your Windows 7 machine from the homegroup. Assign it to the same group your other machines are in and you shouldn't have an issue. thanks, but that is exactly the problem: I don't know for the life of me how and where to change homegroup to workgroup! what's more: I can't even find where the settings are: if I go to control panel > homegroup, there is an option to LEAVE the homegroup, but when I go there I get all sorts of warnings & threats... so please please tell me how to change w-7 homegroup to workgroup... thanks!

Click start, type in homegroup, click homegroup, then remove from homegroup. Then you can add yourself to the group your other machines are on instead.

Click start, type in homegroup, click homegroup, then remove from homegroup. Then you can add yourself to the group your other machines are on instead. IT WORKS! thanks a lot! although I am still not sure how I did it... 'then you can add yourself', you wrote, but that was another problem: HOW do you add yourself... first I left the homegroup. then there was nothing. couldn't find anywhere what to do. then I decided to type (in start): WORKGROUP - and lo & behold: there we were, all 3 pc's of my network. only the name was not 'homegroup', but MSHOME, and don't ask me how, but I could change that as well... pfffff.... boy oh boy... it still isn't as easy as it was with W-XP, so you guys at MS have some work left to do before you let us pay a lot of money! (-; but again: thanks.
