endless bugs with windows update and installation of visual studio 2013

I am using a Sony laptop with a i7 and 8GB ram which is not even a year old. I have been using regularly for the from Nov 2014 which was fine But since this Jan i have been trying to install Visual Studio 2013 on this which opened a can full bugs. System keeps on getting blue screen and i have been refreshing/factory re-installing like every day for the past 6-7 weeks trying to make it work for me.

1. First of, why does the HD free space disappear every and every time I install any program like VS 2013 or update through windows updates or through Sony ( 60 GB minus the installation space required for the program or the update itself) .

2. Noticed after one of these windows updates, the processor speed is stuck at way more then the max. ( like at 2.39 GHz compared to reported speed of 1.8 GHz or the max. i have seen at ~2.1 GHz on an i7 4500U before the update). luckily, processor is not toasted hot but the fan ramp up more often.

3. worst of all, each time i install VS, it starts whole recipe for bugs. without the installation of VS laptop works fine other than the first two issues but with VS its more or less like comedy of errors, I guess. I have tried VS 2013 pro , community edition but its the same every time. Fortunately I all i do is to open templates from new project window and wait for crash with a day.

I really need to get VS running on this laptop (cant afford to get a new one now), any suggestions/work-around is appreciated.

please help.

Thank you.

Hi samad12,

Thank you for posting in TechNet forum.

For the first question, the space might be used to store the updates downloaded (For Windows Update, they will be stored in SoftwareDistribution folder), and once they have been installed, Windows will clean them up.

In case there would be any other errors, please check your Event Viewer:

Press Win+S, then type Event, select View Event Logs.

For the Visual Studio install and configuration issue, I think we'd better ask in the forum below:

In reference specifically to the higher frequencies you are encountering, it appears that your processor is accessing the higher frequencies enabled by Turbo Mode. With Turbo Mode, the i7-4500U processor is able to overclock up to 3.0GHz, this automatic overclocking is regulated by the processor itself and operates well within the thermal threshold (TDP).

As the processor is clocking up using Turbo Mode, there appears to be high demand on the system by something at that time. I highly recommend analyzing the performance of the system using Resource Monitor or the Windows Performance Toolkit. At the time of the high clock speeds and/or installation of Visual Studio to determine what is placing such high demand on the processor and if there is a bottleneck or issue that is related to the other issues you are reporting.
