ehrecvr.exe is waking my PC at 3:00 AM
My PC wakes from standby (S3) at 3:00 AM. The Event Viewer has a Power Troubleshooter entry from 3:00:19 AM that says "Wake Source: Timer - ehrecvr.exe". That appears to be an update process for the Media Center. But "automatically download WMC data" is disabled in my Media Center settings. The Task Scheduler does not list any active task at or near 3:00 AM, does not list any active task associated with the Media Center or ehrecvr.exe, and does not list any system-created task that is set to wake the computer. This is the only time my computer wakes unexpectedly. (Wake on LAN is disabled.) Any idea what's triggering this wakeup, or how to stop it? Check from within services.msc if these two services are set to manual ( default)1- Windows Media Center Receiver Service2- Windows Media Center Scheduler Service Both say Manual. (The Receiver Service also says Started; the Scheduler Service does not.)

WinTV1600 + GTX260 + a beta windows 7Your problem exist here. to narrow your search, disable the Receiver Service for one night. and check, disable the WinTV1600 card from device manager for one night ( i mean untill you pass 3:00 AM). and check. There might be a driver problem concerning the wintv1600 card or the gtx260 card driver as well, windows 7 beta is trying to update these drivers but it fails.temporaryprevent windows update from updating device drivers by going to control panel, devices and printers, right click on your computer name and choose device installation settingsIn general, windows has a spacific default time for downloading updates and that is 3:00 AM. Why at night, no body knows? anyway, you can "simply" change this time from the windows update page and set it to a time where your computer is always on like afternoon or night.

M22472, thanks for your reply. But I have my Windows Updates scheduled for 6:00 AM, not 3:00 AM. And when I check for updates manually right now, there are none. And the Update History shows no TV or video-card updates, sucessful or otherwise.

Gary, take a look thru the settings in Media Center for:"Automatically download Guide data, at x:xx time", and"Perform optimization, at x:xx time."Either will wake the system. Optimization, by default, is not enabled; Guide updates, however, are (for, I think, obvious reasons.)I'd suggest leaving Guide updates enabled (if you use Media Center), and changing the download time to one that's in your normal-usage timeframe (also, IHMO, 5-7pm makes a lot more sense than 3am for this.)HTH,Chris[If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Mark as Answer" or "Helpful" button at the top of this message. Chris, I don't see a MC setting that says "Automatically download Guide data...". There is a setting that says "Automatically download WMC data...". As I mentioned above, it's disabled. The "Perform optimiztion" setting is also disabled.

Gary, I would check the settings within WinTV rather than Media Centre. It is possible that WinTV is trying to update it's EPG at that time.Asrock K8NF6P, AMD64 3200+, 1.5GB RAM, Palit Geforce 8400GS 256MB, 500GB Maxtor SataII, Asus 1814BLT optical

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I never installed any WinTV software. Windows 7 automatically provided the drivers, and I've accessed the TV excusively via the Media Center.

I discovered you can disable wake timers in the Advanced Power Options.

I experienced the same problem. I discovered you can disable wake timers in the Advanced Power Options. I know, but that's too blunt a tool for me. I have other scheduled events at other times that I do want the computer to wake up for. Thanks for the suggestion though. And it's useful to see that others are having this occur too.

The setting to have MCE's update check wake the computer should be WITHIN MCE options and not buried under administrative tasks. The way I fixed this issue in Windows 7 RC1 is to go to 1) Control Panel 2) System and Security 3) Scheduled Tasks 4) Expand tasks to Microsoft>Windows>MediaCenter 5) Find mcupdate_scheduled and right click on it 6) Choose Properties 7) Click Conditions Tab 8) Unchceck Wake the computer to run this task If any other programs are waking up the PC you can check event viewer. Windows System Logs show which event actually caused it to wake up from sleep.
