dvd sata drives
ok I had a problem with my bios seeing my dvd drive on start up. fixed that. now I have a question about odd behavior from dvd drive. Ok my bios now see's the drive fine but if I have it chosen to be the first drive on startup it freezes the system unless there is a disk in it.If there's a disk in it and you dont hit any key it then moves on to load windows, but if the drive doesn't have a disk in it,it will just hang there until you restart it. I dont know if that is typical of a sata drive or not. it just seems weird. So my question is how do I fix this? can I fix this? or should I just always have a disk in the drive?having a disk in the drive isn't all that big a deal but it just seems stupid to have to do that.could this still be a problem with my bios? I know this is trivial but it is frustrating and doesn't seem normal,so if you have any help we would appreciate it again I have a amd 2.8ghz 64bit (bios version 10)6gig memati 4850 video card500gb sata hdddvdram sata drive dvdram ide drive

Hi,I noticed that you have two DVD drives installed on your computer, but you wrote dvd sata drives on the thread title whileyou listedone dvd sata drive and the other dvd ide drive in your post. Which is the actualDVD device informationof your computer? I performed a test on our test machines, we can't reproduce the issue describing as yours. Do you configure CD-ROM to be a first boot device in BIOS or just press keys to select boot from CD-ROM? Generally, if you set CD-ROM as the first boot device in BIOS, computer will detect DVD drive firstly. If there is a disk in DVD drive, the screen will display a message" Press any key to boot from CD or DVD", if you don't press a key, it automatically boot from the secondary drive (Hard disk). Otherwise, if there isn't any disk in DVD drive, the screen will display a message "media test failure, exit the cable", then boot from the secondary drive. Regarding your issue, your computer can't exit the cable while media test failure. I suspect the computer can't identify to exit DVD drive if you installed two DVD drives. Please only mount one DVD drive to test if the issue occurs.Best Regards.Dale Qiao

ok we have both a sata dvd drive and a ide dvd drive. we want to use the sata as first boot in bios .the bios has two choices one is cdrom and the other is hl-dt-st-ram which is the actual sata dvd drive. So we have choosen the hl-dt-st-dvdram. now if there isn't a disk in that drive it will just hang there until you restart the computer.but if there is a disk in it,it say press any key to boot from cd or dvd.we have also set the bios to use the cd-rom. and we do that the system goes straight to windows startup screen unless we put the disk in the ide dvd-rw..So I am still just as confused as I started out . never had a issue like this. we are pulling out the ide dvd andputting another new satadvd in to see if is the drive (we are going to buy the same kind "sata dvd rw ram" and see if maybe the difference is one's ide and one's sata..)Short of that I dont know what else to do..

Hi,Putting another new sata dvd will do a great help to indentify the cause. I am waiting to see the result after your performa test. BTW, what is the result in my previous suggestion on mounting only one DVD drive? Have you tried it? Best Regards.Dale Qiao
