dreaded vista 60 second internet spike interval
Hey everyone, It seems that windows 7 adopted the ridiculously annoying wlan autoconfig feature, and if your home network is configured wirelessly, there is a 60 second spike that lasts for around 3 - 4 seconds, and it happens like clockwork... This 60 second spike is due to windows automatically looking for stronger signal networks, or something similar to that, and as you can imagine it completely dismantles the advantage of having high speed internet because of the lag in games, streaming media, and anything in between... previously in windows vista you had the option to shut this service off either by turning the wlansvc service off in the startup tasks via msconfig, or typing in a dos prompt the following command: netsh wlan set autoconfig enable=no interface="wireless network connection" this does not work anymore for the Rc 7100 windows 7, and the message that I keep on getting is: You do not have sufficient privileges or group policy is applied. Now, i'm somewhat of an advanced windows user, so i immediately started to research the issue myself... seeing how i just installed this RC yesterday and i've configured myself as the administrator with no restrictions, I ruled that out of the picture... moving onto group policy, i opened the group policy editor included with RC 7100 by typing in the run box: gpedit.msc this of course opens up the local group policy editor, and through this i went to: User Configuration/Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > All settings and toyed with the settings here... the ones that seem most relevant would be anything associated with network connections, but toggling/untoggling these does not remove this restriction, and I cannot turn off the autoconfig feature... i've also gone through my registries and looked for hours any possible entries that may be related to this issue, but that is where my advanced knowledge tends to wane... if anybody can shed any light on what could possibly be wrong or what group policy to fiddle with, please let me know... i am also aware that this is an RC and these features could have been permanently blocked off (which would explain why i am getting that error message to begin with), but I cannot get a straight forward answer and this would definitely prevent me from buying windows 7 if i can't figure this out before release. thanks in advance

Even though your user is in the Administrators group does not mean that all programs that you start will be run as Administrator. Some things like cmd.exe will run as your user and will still be required to run as Administrator to change certain options. Try opening the start menu, typing in 'Command Prompt' and then right clicking the command prompt link and running as administrator and then do the same autoconfig disable command.
