The official download site is down for maintenance."Thanks for your interest in the Windows 7 Beta. The volume has been phenomenal -- were in the process of adding more servers to handle the demand. Were sorry for the delay and well re-post the Beta as soon as we can ensure a quality download experience."Microsoft MVP - Group Policy

I had that same problem.I was using firefox 3 at the time. I changed to Internet Explorer, and held down the CTRL key (just in case pop up blocked) and it came up with the download manager.

I am trying to download the 32-bit English beta, and I can get all the way to the download screen. When I click the download link, the page simply reloads and no download is initiated. My environment is Ubuntu 8.10 32-bit with Firefox.
January 12th, 2009 6:03am

You must use Internet Explorer because the download manager uses an Active X control.

I am using IE 7, but after the download manager appears it shows "error" in the status column field - without even downloading a singly byte. I have latest Java, spyware etc free system.

I wasn't able to download the ISO with Internet Explorer, but it worked fine with Firefox after I allowed the Akamai download applet to run.

Yeah, "We are sorry, the page you requested cannot be found".This bodes real well for the next Windows version, huh?
January 12th, 2009 4:56pm

Microsoft already gave out it's 2.5 million keys, there are not more available.

Then how about something more informative than an error page?
January 12th, 2009 4:59pm

Hmm what i heard was that they had suspended the download limit till 1-24-09, cant download either, all i get is the requested page can not be found . how the heck can they expect people to have confidence in a new OS if they cant even run a web page right .http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/10/here-s-where-we-stand.aspx

This is ridiculous. Kind of foreshadowing the way the NEW Microsoft will work. Why is it that there are always problems? My Windows "experience" is wonderful so far. Can't even download a beta. Geez.

I got a key but I got the error when I tried to download the software. I am using vista business and IE7. So really do not think this is related to the key.
January 12th, 2009 5:16pm

Can'tdownload it here either, redirect, not available. Glad7 it is being offered at all, my next PC will have it. Vista will bethe OS I didn't try, it's release did get me into the world of Linux, something I probably wouldn't have tried otherwise.

Same here, I got the key but got the error page right after. Finally I was able to get the download manager to start and download it but its stopping every 2Mb and I have to restart it everytime to get it going again. No way this is how I will continue for 2.4Gb.... WAY TO GO MS! THANKS!

Microsoft seems to be determined to shoot themselves in the foot at every opportunity. Whoever underestimated the interest in the Windows 7 Beta and failed to plan for sufficient resourses for downloading should be sacked. The link using the downloader fails, the direct link fails before completion. What a way to run a railroad. You guys make it harder and harder to resist the alternatives.

There is problems because a 3GB file was downloaded 2.5 million times in just a couple days. My guess is that there is much more interest than they expected.Yes they did underestimate, but these sort of things are hard to estimate. Generally not that many people try betas out, at least not 2.5 million in two or three days. Microsoft is big and has a lot of infrastructure but they aren't invincible.
January 12th, 2009 5:45pm

I just got downloading. You just have to try repeatedly many times. It would have been nice if MS used torrent for this. In Microsoft's defense I must say that at least the DL speeds are good: keeps jumping from 200 to 300+ but mostly staying right around 300.

Hey, I got the product key for me. I couldn't dl it yesterday, so I prt screened it and saved the key. Where to download???? The iso image???
January 12th, 2009 5:50pm

Downloading went awesome for me on Sunday and got a key. I went through Technet to get it and it down loaded at over 700k/sec the whole time.I can imagine any company having issues with the massive simultaneous download of 2.7gig file. It would definitely kill my servers and my wallet! Darkstar3D

I was able to get the download started on one machine, by going to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspxand choosing the version, page showed with product key and let me download.now I am on a 2nd machine and trying to download the 32bit version and keep getting directed tohttps://www.microsoft.com/library/errorpages/smarterror.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/betaexperience/productkeys/win7-32/enus/default.aspxafter selecting english 32bit version... I got the product key for this one the other day, from my mac but wasn't able to get the download to work. I have tried neowin's download and other direct downloads but they all fail around 300mbI have signed out of windows live Id, deleted cache, tried both IE6 and FF3 and even restarted but to no avail. does anyone have any advice to get the download working?
January 12th, 2009 6:12pm

I'm having the same problem as you. The page cannot be found error is getting a bit annoying.I'm just waiting for it to hopefully come back up at some point. I just plan on checking back every once in awhile to see.I'm using Ubuntu 8.10 with FF3.

Tried and failed to download Windows 7 several times in Firefox 3.0.5Retried with IE6 and it worked the first time...Priority due to POST browser type details?
January 12th, 2009 6:27pm

I got the same error (Vista Business and Firefox) then read that others had more luck with IE. I switch back to IE (ugh) and was able to get the key and the download started just fine.

I just kept trying for a while until it worked: going back to http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-7/beta-download.aspx and trying to download time after time. It is now going at 250-350K and already at 900MB. Hoping for no interruptions. :crossfingers:

When you get your product key, you also get a download button, after I clicked the download button and started to download Win7 the screen refreshed and gave me a new key. If you are quick with the print button, you can get 2 different product keys. And to those that posted that 2.5 million keys have already been given out, I believe it was posted that the 2.5 million cap is on activations, not on issuing keys. The first 2.5 million to activate win7 get to use it until August, everyone else gets the standard 30 days then it goes into reduced functionality mode.

I'm trying to download Windows 7 and it keeps stalling at about 500MB. Anyone have any ideas on how to stop it?
January 12th, 2009 7:07pm

Try pausing in the Download Manager, then giving it a minute and then resuming it. If your download does not resume and you are ready to cancel it anyway what I would try is closing all browser windows, opening again and trying to start the download again - it may offer you to resume.

I find it interesting, I've tried this download on 2 separate computers, 1 a XP SP3 with IE7 box and the other a Windows 2003 Server using IE7 and this "download manager" (more trouble than its worth) says in about 1.5 seconds, connecting..... pausing..... error.Other Sites like Ubuntu provide multiple Mirrors for downloading, and they provide the ISO so you can use a download manager if you have one, not force you to use their download manager and get a file, the old File TransferManagerwasmuch better.
