hi. ive been having a "dllhost.exe - Application error. The instruction at 0x77724775 referenced memory at 0x5667bcbc. the memory could not be written. click ok to terminate the program" message when i try to open my programs. also after a while i get a similar message but its "taskeng.exe - application error....." instead. first off, yesterday i stupidly deleted the files in my prefetch folder. all the files. i can't say i know what i was thinking so i firmly blame it on the hunger i was feeling at that moment. i have been looking for ways to restore the folder to no avail. now when i try to open it, it doesn't even open. asks for admin permission but does nothing. it just remains at the windows folder. could this be the cause of the error or might it be something more sinister? also, i had a game open at the time i deleted the folders and shut down my system. now the game runs but the particular saved game i was playing seems to be corrupt. is there anything i can do or do i have to re-install windows? also, i dont have much experience with reinsalling windows 7. is there a way i can do it without losing my files and applications? i seem to remember doing that a couple of times with XP (i might be having another hunger moment though). thanks for any help and assistance. im using windows 7 64 bit, 2gig ram, core 2 duo t5450 processor @ 1.66Ghz Edit: actually the dllhost error comes up when i try to enter the prefetch folder. might be because of it asking permission though

ive still had dllhost crashes an the WERS is enabled but there is still no c:localdumps folder.

I have a similar problem, but the error pops up when i sometimes right click on desktop ..at startup and and when I Single click any file in explorer. Nothing crashes so solution window doesnt appair. I dont know how it started, but either it apaired because of windows update or because of Tuneup program I have ..which automatcally runs in background cleaning cache, registry etc. Zaheer

You may do a system restore. Most likely I had the exact same problem you described when I manually updated avast! to the 5.0.889 build Best thing to do was roll back using system restore.

hmmm. i did just update avast (5.1.889, not sure what the last version was though as i hadn't updated the program in a while) so that might be it. unfortunately i turned system restore off a while back and forgot to turn it back on. oops. how can i remedy this?

Try uninstalling avast! See if that solves the problem. Then install the last version you had and use the automatic updates settings for the program update. If you can't uninstall it try using: http://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility
