dism for removing win update backups
Hi, Recently I have removed Windows 7 SP1 backups to free up disk space [dism /online /cleanup-image /spsuperseded] I can't uninstall SP1 but I saved a lot of disk space (winsxs folder was decreased from from 9.5 to 5,89)! When I look in the Add/Remove programs - Update section there is plenty of other windows single updates that I can uninstall I agree to loose the uninstall option for other updates too - how can I remove backup files? Can I use dism to take care about other update files too? Thanks.

Hi, Backups for updates in Windows are stored in Windows\winsxs. However, it is not recommended to delete anything in this folder. http://blogs.technet.com/b/joscon/archive/2010/08/06/should-you-delete-files-in-the-winsxs-directory-and-what-s-the-deal-with-vss.aspx You could uninstall update using DISM command. For example, DISM /online /get-packages DISM /online /Remove-Package /PackagePath:C:\MyPackages\package.cab DISM /online /Remove-Package /PackageName:Microsoft.Windows.Calc.Demo~6595b6144ccf1df~x86~en~1.0.0.0 For more inforamtion, please refer to the following article. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd744559(WS.10).aspx Best Regards, Niki Please remember to click "Mark as Answer" on the post that helps you, and to click "Unmark as Answer" if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
