disabling users ability to add custom local printers and by IP address of network shared printer
Our office sites each have a local Windows 2008 sp2 print server which are in the same Domain. Each server is installed with HP's Web Jetadmin 10.2 SP2 and use's the HP Universal Printer driver, version 5.1. Group policy preferences with Item level targeting is configured with printers that are created each time and associated to a group that contains the users Windows 7 workstations. Each printer is set to default so that user will be able to print to their closest available printer. Any manually mapped printer created by the user is deleted by the group policy so that the user will not mistakenly print to a printer that is not configured as part of the group policy. I have a situation whereby I would want to disable the option for people to add a custom local printer and to disable users the ability to make a connection to a network printer by using it's IP address as both methods will bypass the Print server audting. I want to disable the option for user to add custom local printers but still be able to connect to the print server to download the driver for the network printer by using the Group policy. Thanks Murras
