disable windows 8 flashout panel behaviour
windows 8 has a popup panel on the right with entries
search, share, start, devices, settings
and a clock popup on the bottom.

on my laptop, when i am editing or pdf reading or otherwise using the touchpad frequently the panel and the clock flash out and take the focus away from and block the view of my work.

this forces that i stop what i am doing and fiddle to get the panel and the clock to disappear.

this behaviour is especially a problem when i am interacting with a time-sensitive application.

i do not understand what causes the panel and the clock to flash out;

the touchpad is oversensitive but i have not been able to adjust it to behave better.

how to stop this flashout behaviour?

i want to disable the panel action entirely, as i never use it and do not want it.

how can this be done?

Hi,

Please follow the steps to resolve the problem.

1. Open Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings > Calibrate. You can calibrate your screen again to solve the problem.

2. If the system is Windows 8.1, press Windows Key+W, and then input PC settings. Click Search > Corners and Edges > Corner Navigation > Turn off When I point to upper-right corner, show the charms.

thank you for the help.

i have no entry
Control Panel > Tablet PC Settings.
i have entries
  Control Panel > Mouse
Control Panel > Synaptics Touchpad v7.5
neither of which offer to calibrate.

i have Windows 8.0.  i rebuild my system frequently and the build image is Windows 8.0.  it is too much trouble to upgrade every time i rebuild.
if i could get a Windows 8.1 build image i would use it.

is there a registry entry that controls the flashout panel behaviour?

Hi,

If your PC is not a tablet PC, you will not find the Tablet settings. For laptop, You can follow the steps to turn off the edge swipe.

1. Open "Control Panel" > "Synaptics Touchpad v7.5". The tab will allow you to directly edit touchpad settings or will contain a link to launch touchpad settings window.

2. Open the touchpad settings, and look for the options similar to any of following,

a. Enable edge swipes

b. Edge swipe

c. Left edge swipe

d. Right edge swipe

e. Top edge swipe

3. Turn off all the edge swipes options to completely disable the Charms bar.

in "Control Panel" > "Synaptics Touchpad v7.5"

i have unchecked
> Enable edge swipes

this probably fixes the issue,
(i am not certain because it was intermittent and i was never clear what was the cause)
