disable unc naming
I have a program that demands a mapped network drive. But when I run it from Vista it gives the unc path. XP always gave me the mapped network drive. How can I stop the unc naming in Vista.

Hi wag0152, To better understand the issue, I would like to confirm the following information with you: 1. Has the network folder been mapped successfully on the Windows Vista machine? 2. Do you mean the program cannot access the mapped network drive? Or does it just display with the UNC path unexpectedly? 3. Can you capture a screenshot of the expected and unexpected displays for me? In addition, Ive included the following article for troubleshooting program compatibility issue in Windows Vista: Advanced methods to troubleshoot a program that does not run as expected after it is installed on Windows Vista http://support.microsoft.com/kb/931362/ Hope it helps.

Thank you for your response. Yes the network folder has been mapped successfully. I can access the other computer through it. When I try to install the program through the network drive, (which is the only way it will install), it displays the XP server in UNC format and the install program rejects it. This does not occur when installing from XP to XP. This may be a problem with the program and Vista, but I hate to spend several hundred dollars to upgrade for this simple problem. I have tried to install it using the rollback XP feature on Vista to no avail.

Hi wag0152, I understand the inconvenience the issue has caused and that the current situation can be frustrating. From your description, it should be a compatibility issue between Windows Vista and the program. Please understand we do not have enough information of the program, and thus I suggest contacting the program manufacturer to check if there is any upgrade for the program or any workaround for this issue. Thank you for your understanding.

I am having this exact same problem installing Adagoi Accounting software on a Vista Client machine. Have a Z: mapped to srv1-finance/Softrak thre is a subfolder in Softrak called SOFTRAK. ... Anyways... From the client, I need to run zOFTRAK/allwkst.exe to setup the workstation as an adagio client. When I try to run the program I get presented with an error screen. "Warning install path does not contain a drive letter. You are running this program from the path \\srv1-finance\softrak\SOFTRAK\ALLWKST Because you are not using a drive letter as part of the path the install is unable to properly check all valid settings...bla bla bla... The install fails. How can I disable UNC paths, and just go back to the drive letter.
