disable auto-detection of ipod / removable media
using WIN7 ENTERPRISE 64 bit at work and I am part of the local ADMIN group
When I plug my ipod in at work via the usb cable I only want it to charge and still be usable as a player, so I have to go into explorer, find the ipod device, right click and select "EJECT'.
How or Can I stop windows from attempting to "mount" this device?
Thanks
kevin

You will need to disable the plug and play service to do that
Windows MVP, XP, Vista, 7. Expanding into Windows Server 2008 R2, SQL Server, SharePoint etc.
My page on Video Card Problems is now my most popular landing page.
My Page on SSD is now #2. See my
gaming site for
game reviews etc.

Hi,
As a workaround, you could prevent installation of devices that match these device IDs.
To prevent installation of a device with a specified hardware ID
Open the Group Policy Management Editor. To do so, click
Start, and then in the Start Search box, type mmc gpedit.msc.
In the navigation pane, open the following folders:
Local Computer Policy, Computer Configuration,
Administrative Templates, System, Device Installation, and
Device Installation Restrictions.
In the details pane, double-click
Prevent installation of devices that match any of these device IDs.
Click
Enabled, and then click Show.
In the
Show Contents dialog box, click Add.
In the
Add Item dialog box, type the hardware ID for your device.
Click
OK to save your changes. You can repeat steps 5 and 6 for other devices.
Click
OK to save the completed list, and then click OK to save the policy setting.
You could find the Hardware IDs, in Device Manager. Just right click the hardware, chose Details tag and Hardware IDs.
