desktop icons alll have black boxes on them, even after I use a good system image to recover
I have tried everything I can think of, including setting up a F drive on my external backup, I reinstall from there, and all is well, then I restart & the black boxes are back. I returned it factory conditions, got same results. I have a friend who tells me I need to give it a deep cleaning, & claims he can do it with software that will take 20 hrs to finish-completley format and repartition C:, but I am reluctant to take such a drastic step. I have Windows 7 home premium, and the comp is less than a year old. This is the only thing wrong, and the icons still work properly, but are so ugly looking. HELP!!!

Hi, Try to rebuild the icon cache to check the result, to do this, please perform below steps: 1. Click Start, and open Computer. 2. On the Tool bar, click Organize and choose Folder and Search Options. 3. Click the View tab, and check to select the Show hidden files and folders option, and click OK. 4. Then, enter the following directory: 5. Click on Start, in search box type Run and press Enter. In Run command type the below command: %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local and press Enter. 6. Find the IconCache.db file, and rename it as IconCache.db.old. 7. Close the window, and restart the computer. If this issue persists, try to change the display settings to 16-bit, restart the computer and put it back to 32-bit to check the result. You could go to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Display\Screen Resolution click the Advance settings, on the Monitor tab, change the color setting. Also, please update your display driver to the latest version. Hope it helps.
