desktop gadgets downloads a file on start up.
Well since i fixed my first problem with desktop gadgets (see this thread for more info) another has surfaced. basically when i start desktop gadgets either manually or at start up it comes up with a download button. this button appears down on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. If i click the button it downloads a file to my desktop (a html file). When open the file (in Mozilla Firefox) the saved file has this message written in html. The message is : This program cannot display the webpage Most likely causes: You are not connected to the Internet. The website is encountering problems. There might be a typing error in the address. What you can try: Check your Internet connection. Try visiting another website to make sure you are connected. Retype the address.note: this is the actual message not an error. The main problem is that once it comes up with the downlad button i can no longer access my desktop gadget gallery. I click on the link in all programs but nothing is displayed. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.Bentree

The file is called "dnserrordiagoff_webOC" is there a way to list which gadgets i have installed?

The file named dnserrordiagoff_webOC is the default error stating that DNS could not locate the website you are looking for; not the name of the downloaded gadget.

Remove all gadgets and then add them one by one to find out which one have problems. Then remove this gadget or install newer version

ahh!! it is not the gadgets tried removing them all. P.S just a reminder to say that this is the actual sidebar program that i am starting not a gadget!

When the Open,Save, Cancel dialog box pops open, does it not tell you the name of the file involved and from what URL it's coming from? If it does, that info could give us a clue on what gadget is causing your problems.Denny

O.K does any body know how to add pictures to this thread? now back to it. in reply to Denny: yes it does tell me sorta were it comes from. it says the following: dnserrordiagoff_webOCCAROFUFS from ieframe.dllSo i think this means that the file is not coming from the internet but from my computer. I think!

So you use some 3rd party sidebar? If so reinstall it using compatibility modeIt is not required to add image to the thread, just post link to image

Yes....That is a needed file for gadgets located at C:\Windows\System32\ieframe.dll. Gadgets are reliant on Internet Explorer so that they can access the net to update periodically as they run. An example would be the weather gadget as the temperature in your area changes. For some reason IE cannot access that file on your computer at the moment. Apparently, something is blocking access to it.Try these steps first to isolate the problem.Turn off any antivirus software you have. AVG seems to be one that interferes with IE accessing ieframe.dll at the moment along with Norton.Turn off your firewall to make sure it's not blocking IE.If you have Spybot Search & Destroy, turn off teatimer which monitors IEand I believe there is a another active guard that monitors system activities in Version 1.6.Turn off any Spyware software you have for that matter. In IE8, go to Tools>Internet Options and reset it to default settings. Also flush out History, Cache & Cookies.Do these first and if that doesn't help, we'll try something else.Denny

If you didn't notice i thanked everyone. O.K? Also i am still new to this posting thing so if i have done something that offends you then don't take it personally and tell me what it was too. The reason i marked danny's post as an answer was because i did what he/she (yes i know some hers that are danny's) said to do and it fixed the problem.

February 16th, 2009 10:16am

Well if you had of suggested it earlier then maybe it would have solved the problem but bear in mind how many more problems that would make. Any way can't we forgive and forget? I can.

For me all is ok, but problem was not identified. This is as if you went to doctor and he give you aspirin without to diagnose your disease
February 17th, 2009 8:36am

Yes i get you now, that is a good point. All i know is that it came out of the blue but i think it might have been caused by internet explorer. Simply because when i reset it it seemed to solve the problem . As i mainly use Firefox instead and have never had a problem with it in Vista or 7. But i guess if it comes back then I'll just hit it with a big stick of dynamite. :P

Hi, I had the same problem recenly so I did the easy process below and it worked: 1- go to the start button 2- In the search box write: gadgets 3- In the result click on the "view lists of running gadgets" 4- In the window you can see all gadgets you had installed before AND a remove button. now you should remove each one of gadgets that need to update through the internet whenever windows start up (for example as I face "sodoko gadget") 5- restart or shutdown and again start windows for me after this prosses there wasn't any message like that at all.
