delays in sending emails via SMTP with Windows Live Mail/Outlook Express
Hi, a few days ago I noticed that there was a serious delay in sending emails - 8 hours or more. I am using XP and Windows Live Mail plus Outlook Express (different accounts for both). My Yahoo.co.uk accounts have not been sending as expected due to those delays. I've been on to yahoo and they assure me all is fine at their end. I think that might be the case as a Thunderbird account I set up sends email just fine, with the messages arriving instantly.I installed some Microsoft updates the other day, using updates that were delivered automatically from MS. I don't know if they are related to the problem but the timing was around about the same time as the email started acting up.I also had Online Armour and Emsisoft Anti-Malware up and running...I've since uninstalled them to see if the problem persists, but it's still there. So I'm leaning towards the possiblity that it's something up with the Microsoft email programmes, perhaps due to a dodgy windows update. Can you please advice me what to do next to sort this out? Thanks in advance, Shane 1 person needs an answerI do too

Not likely OE or WLMail, but rather your server. Once you press Send, how long until it appears in Sent Items? Once you see it there, it was received by your server and the problem lies from that point on. It wouldn't hurt to get rid of e-mail scanning though.Turn off e-mail scanning in your anti-virus program. It is a redundant layer of protection that eats up CPUs, slows down sending and receiving, and causes a multitude of problems such as time-outs, account setting changes and has even been responsible for loss of messages. Your up-to-date A/V program will continue to protect you sufficiently. For more, see:http://www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 Why you don't need your anti-virus to scan your emailhttp://thundercloud.net/infoave/tutorials/email-scanning/index.htmNote that for some AV programs, it may be necessary to uninstall the program and reinstall in Custom Mode and uncheck e-mail scanning when the option arises.
