default mail client is not properly installed
I cannot open a mail link on search sites. My Outlook Express email works OK. I recently had to reinstall parts of XP due to a trojan. And i have had some diffulity in changing from Verizon to Frontier. Also is there any way to keep Outlook Express and NOT Live Mail, which also seems to be a problem?

Have a look in the System and Application logs in Event Viewer for Errors and Warnings and post copies here. Don't post any from than more than 48 hours ago. You can access Event Viewer by selecting Start, Control Panel, Administrative Tools, and Event Viewer. When researching the meaning of the error, information regarding Event ID, Source and Description are important. A tip for posting copies of Error Reports! Run Event Viewer and double click on the error you want to copy. You will see a button resembling two pages. Click the button and close Event Viewer. This places a copy of the report into your Clipboard. Paste into the body your message. Make sure that this is the first paste after exiting from Event Viewer.Hope this helps, Gerry Cornell

For OE see www.oehelp.com/oedef.aspx Also take a look at point 3 here: www.oehelp.com/OETips.aspx#3 and if you continue to use OE, make sure you make frequent backups as it tends to self-destruct the messages. steve <buddygrindstaff> wrote in message news:Email removed for privacy...I cannot open a mail link on search sites. Please answer all of the following diagnostic questions by number in your very next reply (no need to quote this post):1. What anti-virus application or security suite is installed and is your subscription current? What anti-spyware applications (other than Defender)? What third-party firewall (if any)?2. Has a(nother) Norton application or a McAfee application ever been installed on this computer?3. Did a Norton free-trial or a McAfee free-trial come preinstalled on the computer when you bought it? (Doesn't matter if you never used or Activated it.)4. Is the computer currently fully-patched at Windows Update?5. What "parts of XP" did you have to reinstall & how did you do it?~Robear Dyer (PA Bear) ~ MS MVP (IE, Mail, Security, Windows & Update Services) since 2002 ~ Disclaimer: MS MVPs neither represent nor work for Microsoft
